Title: CalSci XL Screen
Post by: cpettifer on October 18, 2011, 08:34:26 PM
Wow - I'm seriously disappointed! My CalSci XL screen turned up this morning just as I was heading out to work, I was so excited. No time to fit it then, so I took the time this evening and went for a quick spin up and down the motorway. I have a headache from the journey. I had loads of noise with the screen at minimum, all the way through to highest height. So disappointed. I think I'm just too tall. I'm 6'6" tall and have a 35-36" inside leg. If I duck down a couple of inches it goes virtually silent. A real shame.

I'm hoping to take up heroblobs' 14 days money back guarantee and try out the laminar lip instead. I'll let you know how I get on.

You'll be able to return it no worries. I think things like this are covered under the distance selling regs.

Agh right, so if you dip down a couple of inches that takes you down to my height at six three so maybe this type of screen would be right for me.

Time to see if a deal can be done.

Pity the Calsci doesn't work for you. You might want to try the 7Jurock (http://www.7jurock.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=241).

One thing to bear in mind: bigger screen = more surface area = more pressure on the windscreen mechanism = £££££££ to fix.

I did hear of one chap from the US who managed to snap the mechanism with the standard shield. But that was at 150MPH

I'm thinking of keeping the stock screen for a bit. I might try and put a lip on it and see how that goes.

One thing to note about such a large screen is it does mean you are partly looking through it, or at least have the top of it much more in your field of view. I'm sure this is something you'd get used to though, but it may be something that just annoys you all the time. It must give better wet weather protection though!

Those 7Jurock screens look immense! Might revisit at some point...

I have the Calsci XL screen and have been pleased with it.  6'2" tall and with screen fully up the wind noise is almost gone.
I'd like to have tried the Cee baileys - but never got the chance. I think the way the screen flips up at the end gives you a bit extra.

Ahhh, this makes sense. I had a feeling it would work nicely for someone a few inches shorter than me. Shame really. Not sure I actually want to put something larger on the bike, particularly with what people have said about the screen mechanism. Ho hum.

Heroblobs have said it's fine for me to return screen to them (him). So I'll be doing this and getting a laminar lip as replacement (plus a bit of dosh!). Will keep you posted on what I think of that and how the return goes (smoothly, hopefully). :)

Be aware that the ORIGINAL CalSci XL screen was +6" over a stock 2008 screen.
The newer XL is +7.5" over the stock 2008 screen.
It could be that HeroBlobs sold ya an original XL that they have in stock.

I'm 6'4" with a long back (32" inseam) and my +6" CalSci is perfect if I hunch slightly.
I very much doubt if you will find better than the +7.5" anywhere.

That said, I like the stock screen in summer when I'm playing in the twisties.

No, he didn't have one in stock, so it came from the US of A... It's a slightly different design to the other sizes, so I know it's the newer XL. Going back tomorrow...

Hi all.
I was seriously thinking of getting the calsci screen, i was trawling through ebay one sunday afternoon and came accross a company called *REMOVED*.
I seen they had a screen at a very cheap price, i ended up buying a extra tall screen (im 6'3") a rear hugger AND a headlight protector all for under £250!
I ordered Monday at 1pm and all arrived tuesday noon!! I certainly recommend them!
