Title: Cars
Post by: 100milesaway on October 08, 2011, 11:48:13 AM
What do you drive?     It's coming winter and some of us will be tucking our bikes up in the garage with the life support (optimate) connected.  Then what!   Which four wheeled greenhouse on wheels do you choose to get you and yours  from a to b? Me !!! Well my good lady does a lot of clay pigeon shooting so often has to go down rough tracks and also ends up in muddy fields so we have a 4x4  Suzuki grand vitara. Good car, shocking fuel economy.    What you got?

Wife drives a Volvo XC90. Perfect in snow, but drinks diesel.

I have a Audi A6 which doesn't get much use. Parked up most of the year and gets driven when its snow or risk of black ice on roads.

I reckon the GTR will get 10 months use, car two months

No car for me!
I haven't had one ever since I came back from NZ in 2000 and am not tempted to get one again either.
If it's too slippery to ride my GTR I use public transport, walk or hitch a ride with my friends. ;D

Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi .. 03 plate, 88000 miles, had it nearly from new and it's great ! Last Christmas we stayed overnight at a Country Hotel when that awful snow came down .... small tyres and low gears got us home .... passed a few stranded 4x4's and a Jag that was spinning allover the place ... LOL  ;D

No car for me, borrow my wife's Suzuki Swift if I really have to. If it snows proper I work from home. Only really snow that bothers me, and no point going out in it unless you REALLY have to.

I've a Pasatt Slowmotion  (ooooop, Bluemotion).  1.6d, 90 bhp and have upto 900 miles on a tank.  Standard company issue so all I got to choose was the estate body and the silver colour.

It's a good car once you get used the lack of performance comapred to the previosu 2litre 140bhp car!

And of course on Monday mornings I have to re-adapt down from the  overtaking abilities of the bike!

Peugeot 406 with 157K on the clock.  Use the bike all year unless it's too icy or snowy.

Was going to replace it this year but got the GTR instead  ;D

I have a Ford Mondeo Titanium X diesel which I've had a for almost two years. Bought it cheap and it's the best car I've ever owned, love it to bits. Not a very good picture of it but it's all I can find. It's crap in the snow.

My wife has a Ford Fiesta Ghia X on a P index, yes P and it's only got just over 20k on it genuine mileage. We bought it off her Dad when he'd had it for three years and it averages 300 miles a year!!

I have a 24 year old 3 series soft top that was a great car until I decided I could better the billions of DeutschMarks BMW R&D spend and showhorn a 7 series engine into it. It has hardly worked since  ::)

Still, like others here, I use the bike every day sun, rain or snow. I still love it, even in January.

I must say that since riding bikes, cars have lost their shine for me. Comparable thrills involve either spending fortunes, or getting something impractical like a Caterham in which case you may as well stick to the bike.

Martin.

1998 Honda Legend with 132K on the clock. Nothing special to look at so no pics.
Does 20Mpg :o but is a dream in snow etc. as it's front wheel drive and an auto.
That big heavy 3.5litre V6 motor over the drive wheels means it has traction and the auto box means smoothness.
My previous Vauxhall Carlton 2.6 Diplomat was more fun to drive but this is way quieter and smoother and apart from the brakes more reliable too.

Up to Feb this year I had a Toyota Camry Estate, 3litre Auto. I owned it for 15 years, and it was fantasic in all weathers. It was just getting so expensive to run at 22 mpg, so I replaced it with an Avensis derv runner. All the toys of the Camry plus more and 40+ mpg, so thats me set for another 15 years on four wheels.

The bike is 4 now, so a newer bike next year is on the cards I think!......

As long as the Asset Disposal Officer (wife) lets me.............

Lancia Delta Integrale 4x4  EVO 2   weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Ford Escort Mexico mk1  -- Stage 3   WOW weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

True enough, but ya don't see many cars that are comfy for a big thirsty Boomer either. ;)
My ideal car would be a Merc S class. The only car I have ever driven that I don't have to have the seat all the way back.

well up till march 2011 I had my renault scenic 19dci which I had bought new in 2001, but my daughter decided to make me and the wife grandparents, and she only had the 2 door punto which was much to small to get the pram e.t.c in! so the wife and the daughter talk me into giving her the scenic which by the way was in top condition with only 48,000 miles on the clock. and I bought a new focus 1.6 titanium. nice car with all the gadgets but heavy on petrol commuting to work it averages about 30 to the gallon :( the scenic averaged 50 to the gallon :'(

2004 Mondeo 1.8 LX. Ace car with 95,000 miles on it, 83,000 done by me. I bought it at 12 months old and so far I have had 3 sets of tyres, a service every 12 months and 1 set of discs and pads all round. (touch wood). Keep thinking about replacing it, but what with? The Mondeo is worth about £10 and I have used and abused it since day one. Useful jobs and tasks completed so far without the use of a trailer, it has recovered a scooter with a puncture, picked up a Suzuki 125 for my son, delivered a BSA Bantam, brought home several new internal doors from Wickes.
Wife has a Ford Streetka with a hardtop. Goes like stink, handles like a roller skate and is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Reminds me of the Lotus Elan and drives very much like one.

We have the family car, a C4 Picasso 1.6D. which is a very nice car and good on the miles per gallon and my better half has a little Peugeot 107 which she calls LadyBug and is a nippy car to drive and again good on the mpg.  The only problem I have when driving it, is other drivers tend to pull out on me "it's only a little car why should I wait!"  >:(

hi i  have a 59 reg xf jaguar 3.0 diesel xf s,my second xf, first one was the 2.7 diesel, great car,but the 3.0 d s is something else.great looks ,great drive, extremly comfortable, loads of power from the excellent diesel engine 272 bhp,0-60 in 5.9 seconds.30 mpg to 45 mpg on the longer roads.our lass uses the car every day for work so it does not go far, covered 1200 miles from new.i have an lt 35 van which i use for my work,as much as i love the xf ,they are crap in the winter,if i manage to get it off the drive i will be lucky to get it out of the street as it wont drive up the banks on snow ice, even on its winter setting, had to hire her a small front wheel car last year, another reason why my gtr is up for sale.going to get a small car for her, dreading the bad weather coming.!!!!

Now theres the car that 1st took  me into  rallying  as a co-driver / navigator(the passenger seat and a map was cheaper then buying  the car!) back  in '76.

But rallying went by the way side for various reasons and soon after was replaced by motorcylcing. I'd deff not swap the GTR for a map!

My brother has a 11 plated Jag XF 3L D and as Keith says it is magnificent in every way ... except in last years snow  ;D ...he still has his old 4 litre petrol Jeep for the winter, which is years old now but still going strong through the UK weather.
