Title: Reshaped my seat
Post by: Gas Man on September 22, 2011, 07:50:37 PM
I've only got 2 complaints about my beloved GTR, the damn rack for 1 and 2nd the seat.
The 1st problem I've decided to sort by purchasing a new rack and box plate.
The second I decided to have a go at reshaping the foam below the cover and inserting gel inserts for the front and back.
The outcome Im very happy with as its now a lot more comfy and even better a bit lower which IMO makes the ride a lot more sturdy, especially on the bends :)
The rear is now more level rather than sloped which the wife tells me is much better as she feels more relaxed rather than tensed from stopping herself from sliding towards me, especially when braking  ::) :-[

Pics to follow  ;)

Be interested to see how you did this too please ... that seat is not so good for pillion riders. Has it changed the rider position - I find I slip forward to?

Wouldn't to lower the seat for me - as already a bit low. Where did you get the gel inserts from?

Thanks

You must be tall mate  :o ;D

I'll take some pics of the seat in a while ( wish I'd took some while doing the job but forgot  ::) :-[ )

I got 2 of these gel pads:

What I did was take off the staples on 1 side only and back and front so could fold the cover off the seat showing the foam.
I then used very large stanly blades to cut out the shape I felt would suite me and the wife.
I then used the pads as a template and then cut out the foam so they would sit in the cut outs.
I then used my electric staple gun to restaple the cover back on and used a stanly to cut away the excess cover.

Thanks. You'd probably notice more of a difference if I could take a pic with mine next to a seat untouched

<snip> ... that seat is not so good for pillion riders. <snip>

That's funny. As I think I said before, we're all different - Lyn thinks the standard seat is the most comfortable OEM seat she has ever used.

We had it modified by Tony Archer as it was too tall for me and the lower gel seat was too hard but she said it made next to no difference to the pillion seat (probably because we told him it was already comfortable).
