Title: Home made laminar lip
Post by: GTRPete on September 21, 2011, 12:14:20 PM
I read an article somewhere on t'internet about a guy who used an old helmet visor and taped it upside down to the top of his screen 'cos he was too tight to buy a new screen or a laminar lip.

He says it removes all of the problems with his old screen, i.e helment buffeting, noise etc. and cost him a few pence to do.

I am going to bodge one on my stock '10 screen this weekend with gaffer tape and see what its like....

Anyone else tried something like this?

Nope, but I need a new helmet soon - so may try out the same thing with my old visor if I get one! Let us know how you get on.

Will do.  I'll get some photos up over the weekend as well

Bodged the visor on to my screen with duct tape - looks nice and solid.  Will chuck the photos on tomorrow when I get to work.

Doesn't look pretty, but then again neither do I....

It works a treat.....

It does make the screen wobble a bit though

Just be mindfull then that it doesn't cause undue stress to the screen pulley system, £600+ to replace I gather.  :o

Old visor attached to the top of the screen with duct tape?
On a 1400 GTR?
I wouldn't want to be seen dead on that. :o

So, are screens like the really big Calsci ones OK?

Its a suck it and see I'm afraid. There's only been one example on here where the screen pulley failed and he was lucky to get it replaced under the Kwak warranty. I think the odds of it failing are extremely slim however. I have a taller aftermarket screen on mine and I have never experienced any problems but clearly it can happen.

Yeah proved the concept - now took it off 'cos it looks bloody awful.  Apparently you can get a cheap lip for the screen from M&P in Swansea quite cheap...

Sounds like a very good idea to me have been experimenting with my screen, one of them Teutonic flip things that doesn't work, see my post screens a slight improvement on the other forum,
