Here we go again I hear you all groan... yet another screen post.
I'm 6'6" tall and have approx 35-36" inseam. I pick up my GTR on Friday (fingers crossed), it's a 2010 model and has the 2010 stock screen (previously known as the Kawasaki tall or touring screen I believe) and standard seat.
Anyway, from my test ride, I remember that I thought it was good, but not perfect. I love the ability to move the screen up and down as speeds change etc. However, I've kind of decided I'm always going to have to have some wind noise, partly because I'm so tall. The question is, will I be able to reduce the noise that I will get from the stock screen with an after market screen? I'd prefer not to spend money on lots of screens and spoilers in a quest to find one that will work the best for me.
What I'm really looking for is one that will give me the least noise on motorway runs, while also preventing me from buffeting etc. I've read things about laminar lips, vario spoilers (clip on, plus a screen) and then other screens, some really big ones (Calsci for example). Is anyone out there 6'6" tall (or similar) who has a happy quiet ride on a motorway? If so, what screen and what position works for you? Where do you think the wind blast is going?
My memory was that I could change the wind noise to a pretty good level by adjusting the screen somewhere around half way raised perhaps. Fully down blasted the wind in my chest. Fully up produced too much turbulence round my helmet and far too much noise. I reckon the ideal position I found on my test ride had the main air blast going around my neck area.
I wear foam ear plugs every time I ride on a motorway.
See GTR discussion page 2 screens Regards Rat
Don't know sod all about tall screens as I don't need one but glad to hear that you use foam ear plugs .... but why not all the time ??
I use them every ride no matter where or when .... and so should you and everyone else out there ... hang on a minute .... I can feel a new thread coming on .......
The only time I don't use em is when I'm pottering into town / around locally at 30mph, or similar. Any faster and it's too noisy, even for short trips.
So it sounds like Calsci, new XL, might be an option, with it fully up for cruising down the motorway?? Although it might be noisy with it down?
Do strong winds become an issue with such large screens?
