Title: Hello from Worcester
Post by: cpettifer on September 19, 2011, 02:16:54 PM
Hi there... After much deliberation I bought a GTR. :) I pick it up on Friday. 2010 model (but brand new) in the magnesium grey / bronze colour.

It's fair to say I can't wait!!

Glad I got my insurance changeover sorted today. Hopefully I'll have forgotten about the fact it's more than doubled by the time I pick the bike up! Not much of a surprise though, given that I've more than doubled in power etc!

What did you have before? You'll soon drift off into your own world when you take posession of the beast and forget that its just cost you an arm and a leg.

I'm moving from a Kawasaki Versys. Staying within the tribe! I tried a BMW R1200RT, but found it somewhat boring by comparison. Most of my riding is my motorway commute to work, so wanted something better for that than my Versys (which the BMW would have been fine for), but also something with that bit extra for those occasions when my mood is different.

You've hit the nail on the head then in that case. Don't forget to put some photos of the beast on here when you get it.

I thought I probably had. Heart was saying GTR, head was saying BMW. Went with the heart decision, life is often so much more fulfilling that way!

Will snap away when I get it. I just got a new phone and have been impressed by the camera on it (for once), so may get snap happy!

Enjoy the bike mate and don't forget the eco mode if you are chugging around on motorways.  It can make a big difference on your tank range.  You have of course picked the best colour as well.  I've done 17k miles on the M4 between bristol and newport in the last 12 months and its been brilliant

All the best for your new bike. I've had 3 RT's in the past and am growing to like the GTR.  Safe riding ...

Just wait until he's run her in and gives her the full beans for the first time.
BANZAI!!!!  ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)

Welcome to the GTR and I hope your first day on her was a hoot!
Mine wasn't. I rode her 8 miles home and then went away for 5 days,... in the car.  :(
I spent all of those 5 days reading the Owners Manual,... over and over. <LOL>
15 minutes after we got home I went for a good 4 hour / 200 mile ride.
That was fun!  ;D

Welcome aboard.
Good choice, I bought a BMW RT1200 when moving from a Harley, thought something that would tour and give "pleasure" but it was not for me, a bit sluggish and cramped two up, I sold it after four weeks and bought a GTR, 2009. Really great bike, does everything.
Good luck, ride safe.

Hey folks. Thanks for all your notes. I've been sooooo busy since I picked up the bike. Fortunately I live 30 miles from my dealer, so had a nice saunter back home. Popped out yesterday for a another stint around the block.

I do really like it, but I'm also keen to run it in properly, so nothing terribly exciting yet. I did almost forget to turn into a corner when I was out yesterday (oops) and had to gently overtake a couple of s..l..o..w people out in their cars.

All booked in for first service next Friday! I'll easily do over 500 miles this week taking it to work every day. Looking forward to the week after, but will still be taking it gently as I get used to it and run it in for the second 500 miles the week after.

I'll take some snaps when I'm out one day. :)
