I have a brand new Kawasaki 1400 GTR which is 11 plate, but is actually a late 2009 U.K. model which I sourced from new and got at a great price. All warranty as per new and first registered as in March this year, to me as first owner.
Anyway, I digress. My point is I am showing on the engine management computer as returning 55 consistently on runs. I admit I am not a speed merchant, but will do about 78 on motorways and ride to the speed limit, i.e if 50 then I will be doing about 50 if conditions permit. At one point I actually after a 150 mile round trip got 57 MPG shown. Which I have to say is the most I ever have managed.
All the write ups rubbished the bike for fuel consumption, but this has been far from my experience. I know the new bike has and eco system for economy, so I shudder to think what that is returning if I am doing 55 MPG on the old style engine.
I seem to be getting about 185 miles to a tank before the fuel light comes on & if I fill up at that point the tank only takes 16.5 lts to fill up. And as its a 22ltr tank the bike should be good for 220miles which is the best I have had to date. And I dont tend to hang about.
10 miles per litre is about what I am getting. The best I had so far was 240 miles on a tank.
And I don't hang about either.
I guess the "rubbishing" of the fuel consumption in the media occurs because they have sports bike riders testing the bikes.
And if you ride the GTR like a sports bike fuel consumption (and tyre wear) tends to go up quite a bit.
The Eco mode doesn't seem to do that much.

Assuming you mean the ECO mode you get when holding the mode button rather than the eco symbol that appears every time you're not accelerating, I disagree. Being in ECO mode is the difference between 180'ish to reserve two-up and 220'ish for us.

In 6 months my average is 49.1 ... average £21 to fill up .... and I love it to bits ;D ;D

Ohhh i only thought there was one eco mode and that the little symbol on the dash meant you were in eco mode? how does one get into the "other" eco mode then?
Alan
Hold the display toggle switch down for a few seconds until eco mode lights on dashboard
rippers, I usually get upwards of 50+mpg. Sometimes a little more. ;D Mines on an 07 plate.

Hi L.W.
Yes this is my experience. Contrary to the press reports on the bike I consistently get over 50MPG and recently did a best of 57 MPG. I have to say my figures are usually around 53-55 MPG.
Brilliant!!The bike just gets better and better.
Oh Rippers you are SO right .... coming home the other day on a mixture of A class roads, dual carriageway, and single 50/60 mph roads etc ... I KNOW that in the summer lighter months you have to be very careful in relation to not being picked off by an officer with a Laser but the same roads in the winter, in the dark, with dry crispy evenings and little traffic about .... ohhhh, how I smiled when I arrived at my hoose ;D ;D.... I just love it .
2200 miles on my 2011 and an average of 50.7 so far. And I must say I dont hang about ;)
As for the eco mode I do use it but not sure it makes any difference
Who cares? It's a bike..it's fun... and we're free... THAT's important! ;D
Hoorah for Mosegaard, for me to get 50+ mpg I would need a brain transplant. I just can't help myself and wind on the throttle and hear that Remus can roar and get the ear to ear grin on my face. ;D
blimey i only average 46mpg around town commutinig ;D who cares only money :(
Its nice to get decent mileage but it isnt the end of the world. I ride to enjoy the experience, everything else is a plus. 8)
38 MPG :'(
Wonder if I can get to 30 MPG :)
I went up to Penrith today and managed 56+mpg 8)
Hiya. All this sounds promising for my imminent arrival of new GTR. I'll post some figures after I've run it in and start commuting properly (give me a couple of weeks). I do over 100 miles a day on motorway, so 90%+ of each tank will be cruising with ECO mode enabled I expect.
Currently I'm at 220 miles on the tank of fuel and the Low Fuel light just started flashing 1/2 mile from home. That's not too bad going.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for. My commute is around 110-115 miles, so two days of fuel is what I'm after. What sort of speeds do you do for your 220 miles? Much motorway?
That mileage was a combination of restricted roads, i.e. 30mph, national speed limits, then 35+ miles up the M6 & then the same again in reverse. This followed by a 25 mile round trip from home to work and back home again today doing 30 & 40 in stop start conditions. My GTR is an 07 plate so it probably wont even be as economical as yours.
