Title: Calsci XL or Cee Baileys Ultra Tour for 6" 2 rider?
Post by: simbad on September 12, 2011, 04:51:53 PM
Hi all - Have read up on the various screens for a 2010 GTR.

Don't think the Puig will be tall enough - so am looking at the Calsci XL or Cee Baileys Ultra Tour for 6" 2+ rider

Calsci - £175 + postage
Cee Baileys - £200

Both about 4.5"" taller than stock 2010 shield - although the Cee Baileys seems to flip the air up; the Calsci has the cut outs to reduce back flow.

Not a lot in price but which one do the job best for a taller rider?

Any advice out there please ..

I am 6' 3" tall and have a new GTR, standard screen and its ok up to a point, if you find a solution i would like to know, i could do with something taller but dont know what, perhaps a lip might do it so if any experts are here then can they enlighten us.

Thanks
Alan

I'm the same size as you guys and have tried myriad screens, I would make three observations;

Screens are a personal thing

Calsci or Ultratour are both good screens, but only if you want complete isolation from the world. They are both HUGE though! Ran a L Calsci but sold it as it was not quite tall enough and I loathe the way it looks on the bike ( personally I prefer Calsci because as Boomer has mentioned they are optically better)

If you spend your life on the motorway get a big screen. But remember when it's really hot (I.e. Abroad ;D ) you wont get any cooling airflow.

I have come to the conclusion that it's all about what you want from the bike and what you use it for.

Oh and my Cee Baileys Euro cut took 7(!) weeks to arrive. Do not believe Sporttouring or Cee Baileys website about lead time. They sometimes carry stock so it's worth a phone call.

Daft question time, is there a "lip" type of screen i could fit when i am riding in cold wet times, then remove when its hot and i want to keep cool?

See it told you it was daft.

I've got a large (CalSci) one  :) & at just under 6' I have to duck an inch for perfect quiet. Depends what your body (bit stuck out in the breeze) / leg ratio is. I'd guess XL for 6' 2" if you haven't got 33" legs / trouser length. Leave the plastic on (cut out vent hole) & test ride.

Note: We have recently (6/2010) revised the names of our Concours shields - what used to be called our Large is now the Medium, no other changes; what used to be called the XL is now the Large, no other changes. We have added a new XL shield for taller guys.

Thanks for the replies - get the point about style of riding and isolation. Comes down to whether you want a barn door on the front of the bike I guess.

I'm 6'6" tall, 35-36" inside leg and just ordered a Calsci XL. I'll let you know how I get on. Heroblobs have a 14 day money back guarantee if you're not happy, provided it's in an as new condition. I'll be hoping that wrapping the screen in some clingfilm will be sufficient to keep it good!

Ordered my screen from Heroblobs -all arrived quickly. Screen works much better than tall stock. It does need to be up fully before I get the real quiet spot.

Slight worry about the extra strain on the motor mechanism - http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,873.0/topicseen.html (http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,873.0/topicseen.html)
