Title: New owner checking in ...
Post by: simbad on September 07, 2011, 08:25:21 AM
Hi all,

Am about to join the ranks of GTR riders with a 2010 model picking up next week. Took a test ride over a year ago but stuck with the RT.

Being tall (6'2") - I hope I can get something sorted for the screen which I remember giving me lots of wind buffeting. I've read about the Cee Baileys which is pricey or the MRA Vario which looks interesting. Anyone know of a good dealer service in South Wales or just over the border? Am based in Cardiff.

Am thinking about the 2yr warranty extension - would you buy the K-Care from a dealer or Kawasaki themselves? What kind of price can I expect to pay for it?

Great site, seems friendly - and thanks for having me!

:)

Welcome Simbad .... I sure you already have but have a good look round all the topics and threads ... loads of stuff to waste your evenings with !   ;D
NB has just had some brake disc work done and  has made good use of his extended warranty... a few others too. I shall take one out next year when the 2 years are up, has to be worth it, and I
believe its a set price from any dealer, but being an old duffer i can't remember how much it is !
There have been threads and chit chat all about screens like you mention ... take a look or someone will drop you a link.
You will ove the Gtr, truly a fantastic all round bike ... look forward to you joining in  ;D ;D

Hi Simbad and welcome to the forum.

Extended warranty prices vary from dealer to dealer so its worth having a ring around. Do make sure its the genuine Kawasaki warranty though and not a thrid party one. I've made good use of my extended warranty and thats probably down to the mileage I do. I think I paid £250 but it was a long time ago.

As for screen, try and go for a Calsci. I've been around the houses with screens and that's the one I prefer by a mile (and as do some of the taller members). Might be worth giving these guys a ring to see if they can source you one: http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk/products/calsci-screens-for-kawasaki-gtr1400

Sinbad, welcome, I'm sure I've seen you hiding in the shadows since you signed up and wondered when you might chip in. We are all a friendly bunch on here, some of the southerners have to be carefully watched but any of the Northerners you can trust with your life ;D. Ok, maybe not your life but hopefully you get the idea.
Congratulations on the GTR, as Lord Rusty has said, you won't be disappointed. I explored the option of buying a BMW RT but as nice as it was I preferred the GTR which i have owned now for about 15 months and love it to bits.

Thanks for the welcome - and for the link on the screens. I'd not seen that one before and will investigate.

After the RT I made an informed / rash decision to try the K1600GT. I've just sold it now -  :'( it was a great bike, but I could no longer justify the cost and decided to pass it on before I lost too much money. I could write more about the K16 - but it will be interesting to see how the GTR compares. It is probably an unfair comparison but I'll get over it and come to enjoy the GTR just as much I'm sure. Seat warmers .. pah! who need's em ..   :o

Nah, I don't know what the base price is, but different dealers sell it at different prices. Some will throw it in for free as part of a deal.

There's a thread with a list of accessories (http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,12.0.html) that you may find useful.

I will be interested to hear your comparisson of the GTR and K1600GT. You won't be disappointed with the GTR.

The extended two year warranty is £350.00 but must be taken out before the bike is 2 years old.
