We're having our garden concreted and the workmen decided to move the metal shed with my bike inside at 8am this morning. Then they came knocking on the door in a panic when they knocked the bike over. Bleeding obvious question: why not ask if the shed is ready to be moved?
Damage to the bike is the right fairing (not too bad if I'm honest, but needs a repair) and the the plastic fairing around the radiator. They've said they'll pay for damages. Otherwise the bike seemed fine.
Got ready for work and set off in the wind and rain over the pennies. On the motorway I use mainly engine braking and maybe a touch on the front brake now and then. Got into Oldham, heavy early morning traffic, started braking using the front lever, bike slows down, but the lever carries on travelling till it meets the grip. Obviously its losing brake fluid and my first thought is its going over the discs and tyre - not safe at all.
Pulled over an on closer examination found a leak near the caliper. Its the pipe from the lever to the brakes that has a bolt through it at the caliper. Fortunately the leak was going all on the wheel alloy and not the disc. On closer inspection noticed the bolt was loose. What must have happened is when the bike fell over it, the pipe must have hit something that caused the bolt to loosen. Decided to ride to a motorbike shop about 1/2 mile up the road to see if they could tighten it as I didn't have spanners to hand (that's why I need extra storage in my second exhaust!).
Got it tightened and then had to fill up with brake fluid. In my haste I over filled, and it went on the paint work :( I cleaned up best I could, washed off with water, and carried on into work. On the way, stopped at a jet wash and washed the areas where the brake fluid had split. Hopefully managed to get it off before it did any damage but only time will tell.
sad day then :-\
can relate to that sort of a day
NB that's not a good day but sounds like you were quick enough with the cleaning bit of the paintwork ... one has to sak why they didn't check inside the shed first !!!!!
Hope you get it sorted.
Bloody hell NB who have you hired to do the work? Be careful, they might have said they will cover the cost of the repairs, but do they actually have a clue how much damage financially they have caused?
I can envisage this getting messy when they see an invoice.
Lucky escape though with the brakes...could have been a different story altogether.
Indeed. Told the workman about it this morning and the blood just drained from his face. The fairing needs a respray. Not a big deal. I'll get some estimates so they are aware. The cracked shroud around the radiator they will have to pay for a new one.
Whilst riding the bike to work today, I started to pat it and say "don't worry, we'll get you fixed in no time".
Help.
