On my way to work local roundabout wet and diesel spill bike and i went down the road, all the damage is to the right hand mirror and fairing also pannier and exhaust ,just wondering when it comes time to order the parts can anyone reccomend a good place in the uk to order these and local dealer in ireland will rob me.
I would have a look at Ebay, there are usually a few bits and pieces around to be had, it might even be cheaper to get the side panel and get the local painshop to paint it rather than purchase a new one, then try repairing the old one with fibreglass etc and keep it as a spare.
Alan
Ouchhh ..sorry to hear that news old fruit ... I too would try E Bay or MCN in the classified bits after the " Bikes for Sale " ... there are usually lots of little adverts in there that will keep you busy.
have fully comp insurance with no claims protection so will have to claim i think.
Ah well, that's a little different then ... if your NC is protected then claim away, remember that's what you pay a little extra for so get on and use it ;D
I feel your pain.
Instance or ebay is your best bet
I take it you are ok, you don't say?
The bike can be relatively easily fixed, get it sorted through the insurance, that's what it's there for in my eyes. It might cost you in the long run but it'll be a lot less hassle than trying to source bits from eBay.
I ended up with a sore hip and shoulder but other than that im ok
One other thing, how many people did it take to lift it back up?
Alan
Diesel is really nasty. Not to long ago I filled up and some idiot had spilled Diesel on the ground. I nearly dropped my bike at the station and the next time I stopped the soles of my boots where still so slippery that I nearly dropped it again. It must be one of the worst hazards on the road! :o
Alan there was another man behind me in a car so the two of us lifted it not a hope on my own.
Diesel is indeed very nasty and it's also the cause of many a mishap where cars are concerned but unfortunately for us bikers it can be particularly dangerous if not deadly.
My old traffic Sgt was always very supportive of us reporting motorists who were negligent by not correctly securing their filler caps resulting in diesel spillages but unfortunately times change, people move on and new bosses come in.
Recent case in hand, large diesel spillage from a recovery truck, necessitating the road having to be gritted etc, driver admits not having checked his filler cap before he set off and when he does check it in front of me and a colleague who coincidentally is also a biker the truck driver realises his truck is responsible for the diesel spillage. Driver interviewed at scene, driver signs interview notes taking responsibility for the spillage, two supporting statements from Officers one of whom, (me) is authorised to test and inspect motor vehicles on a road and low and behold the matter gets dropped by CPS.
Now if I had just had an off because of a diesel spillage and the offending vehicle was identified and the driver admitted being responsible and then the matter got dismissed at court I'd be furious. It seems the driver had 6 points already and another 3 would have caused him problems at work, his boss complained and even one of our Sgts advised him how he may be able to avoid a conviction and low and behold it worked.
Just had a call from my mechanic this morning ,,alot more damage than first hoped the cradle that holds the fairings is sanpped and one of the engine casings is ruptured aswell getting worried that if repair bill is to high they will write her off.
This is when you thank the lord that you took out fully comp Ins !! Lets hope you get it sorted one way or another .... would you like the bike back or be happy to hunt for another ?
would rather my lady back tbh
Sounds like R&G Adventure bars would be a good investment. Saw them on a 2010 the other week and thought they looked rather nice.
I read you have to make holes in the fairing to mount them, though; so probably not a job for DIY.
It might be easier if they do write it off, agree a settlement and then source another GTR. It can sometimes be disconcerting riding a bike which has been involved in a smash, sometimes you just never settle on it, always thinking theres a strange noise there or it doesn't feel as though it handles like it used to etc then that in turn affects your confidence on the bike.
Perhaps starting afresh might not be such a bad idea.
good job you are fully comp with your no claims protected, but even though you have protected no claims when you next come to take out your insurance they still put your renewal price up because you have made a claim, thats what they did to me when someone hit my car whilst it was parked and then drove off.they also charge you for 5 years, mine has just finished this year, think it is a way insurance companies can rip you off same as endorsements they charge extra for 5 years even though the endorcement is only 3 years,,,,they must be raking it in off the motorists, good luck ...
See how much they offer you and you might be able to pick a newer model up?
Post pics of the damage. What insurance companies consider a write off can be a simple fix.
well got the price to put my bike back on the road this morning,4000 sterling, bike is only worth 7500 ish.
Do you have a list of what needs to be repaired?
no dont have the list my mechanic rang me to let me know how much.
I feel your pain Bud, i had an off in the isle of man in may :-[, a 20 mph slide on a bend on a newly resurfaced road that had a inch of stones/gravel left on the surface . come down hard on rhs causing very similar damage to yours but not engine casings but shaft drive and radiator causing 4500 damage and bike was worth 7500 causing insurance to write it off. I still have the original silencer off it in the garage if you require it for your rebuild its only done 1800 miles and has a couple of marks on the top of the black part under where the pannier sits but cant be seen when fitted (had two bros titanium one on at the time) also still have brand new spare keyfob if anyone requires one (2008 model)
GOT A CBR1000RR FIREBLADE NOW ,ITS EASIER TO PICK UP ;D
Hello Fozzy ..... Hmmmm Fireblade eh ?? ... they are swift bits of kit ;D
Its a lovely bit of kit very very quick and nimble (slips nicely through slow to stationary town traffic) a world of difference from the GTR ;D
But i do miss the practicality and comfort of the mighty GTR :(
HI KAWDOLF,
first of all,i glad that you are ok!!!!!!!!,sorry about the bike, bit although how ever much we love our bikes they are all replaciable-------your not mate!!
I had a diesil spill off last year on my vfr, with my mrs on the back for her first time out with me,bastard lorry driver had spilled it all over the bend on a long down hill section, bike was wrecked, mrs ok!-if anything had been coming the other way we both would have been gonners,no doubt about it.
anyway ended up with a bust rib, cuts n bruses,5 days later i was rushed in to hospital with internal bleeding-the bust rib had ruptured my spleen,so out it had to come.
fuc me guys, this 1 one ell ov a operation,i ended up with a collapsed lung,in hospital for 2weeks,n 8 weeks off work,an as im self employed (an in the middle of summer,my busiest time) you could say i was knackered!
so anyway if your intrested how things panned out go on to www.welshbikers.co.uk-go into the search and put "diesel spill twat"
i see that your from ireland?-i contacted a specialist lawyer called andrew campbell, which trades under the name of bikelawyer, based in llantwit major in south wales.andrew is the legal guy that has a column in mcn-google him,he is shit hot,i can vouch for that!!!
not sure about in ireland but you can make a claim with the M.I.B,this is a government body set up to help untracable drivers,if you look on the site it explains it in full .
so anyone that is unfortunate to have ANY accident i cannot stress how important it is to get any witnesss names, addresses an contact details, also as important PHOTOS,lots of um,so if you havent got a fone with a camera, buy a cheepie disposable one an keep with you,if not for your use it may help some one else.
if theres anything else i can help you with just message me,an you can give me a ring, hope all goes well mate, take care--- jenros
Here's the thread that Jenros is referring to: http://www.welshbikers.co.uk/forum/welshbikers-ride-out-reports/warning-diesel-spill-(twat)/
Quite an accident. Glad to hear you are ok.
jenros, very, very fortunate.....now perhaps it can be inderstood why I was disgusted at the decision by CPS from my entry on the previous page.
lonewolf,
yeap, i read it earlier!,most of these so called professions should be strung up by the balls >:(, .
From april this year the mib as changed the ruling as to the person is able to make a claim for damaged clothing, etc, bike, also any no claims that was used up is now able to be reinstated (as i lost 3yrs of mine) any damage to property or other vehicles, loss of earnings etc, but as my luck goes,i missed out on it ha ha!
