After 40k miles looks like the discs may be warped. Disassembled the brakes, made sure the calipers weren't sticking, cleaned the discs and although there was an improvement there was a distinct shudder and pulsing when the brakes were applied.
The dealer took a look today and thinks it could be the discs. Bearings, tyre etc all look ok. Fortunately the bike is under extended warranty, otherwise I'd be looking at the Galfer or Armstrong brand of disc. The OEM ones aren't cheap.
I was going to ask you if you had this sorted.....so they are covered by the extended warranty then? If/when I ever update my GTR I will definately be buying the extended warranty.
Looks like they are. The extended warranty was well worth it
The dealer replaced the discs and pads this weekend. The issue has gone away thankfully. The new discs are slightly modified from the original to dissipate heat quicker. Only time will tell.
You are a jammy bugger with that extended warranty!
Must confess it has saved me a packet. Mind you, dealer knows I take care of my bike (apart from the washing), and its the highest mileage GTR he's had to service, so he's always keen to find out any issues.
Given that he argues my care with Kawasaki, he definitively gets repeat business. Probably buy my next bike from him.
Good point NB ... When mine is up for extended warranty I shall definately take it out ...as you say it is in the dealers interest to have a higher milage bike going through his workshop so he can see for himself what it's like, and of course the likelihood of you going back there for a new bike and repeat business is much increased.
I too have the extra 2 year warranty.
I bought my bike at 15 months old andit had only done 1100 miles and not used warranty but still worth the money.
P
I still have quite some time left to make that decision, but for that kind of money it seems worthwhile.
