Good morning (if a little wet and windy) and hello from leicestershire, I picked up my GTR on Saturday afternoon, loving it apart from the awful standard fit screen, had a 350 mile ride yesterday and felt like I had done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson by the time I got home last night, at its lowest setting the full force hits my chest at its highest my head was getting battered, has anybody fitted a Givi screen or what would you advise?
Glad to be part of the forum and look forward to many enjoyable miles!!
Mark.....
Mark, firstly welcome and congratulations on purchasing a quality machine. I bought a used GTR and it had fitted to it a Cee. Baileys screen. I dont know how much taller these are than standard but at 5'11" (and a half) ;D it seems to do the trick. Sometimes I have to agree it is nice to get a breath of fresh air in your face, but only when you want it and not continuously!
I couldn't agree more the wind in your face is good, but the standard screen makes loads of noise and when its at the highest setting it directs the wind blast to the top of my head and straight into the wife's face and chest other than that I cant fault it at all well except for the oil leak from the diff after 100 miles or so, back into the dealer and a new drain gasket fitted and its ok.
Hi Mark and welcome to the forum.
Initially I loved the smoothness of the engine but as I got used to the engine I found it was too quiet and refined. That's why I ended getting an after market exhaust to get some soul in the bike.
Check out his thread (http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,12.0.html) for after market accessories. I have a Cee Baileys Ultra Tour which works well for me (I'm 6ft with 34" inseam). The other popular one out there is the Calsci.
Welcome old chap and enjoy the ride.
Thanks for the replies from reading the reviews it looks like the Cee Baileys Euro cut is the screen of choice however i have just read that MRA make a screen for our bikes with an adjustable spoiler, anybody on here used one?
I have a V-Stream and it is great, as long as you don't mind movement on the edges of the screen, I have gotten used to it.
6'2" (1.9 M) with a 33" (84 cm) inseam 225 lbs (102 kilos). At full up, the wind just clears my helmet (not much back pressure), at full down it hits my chest below the collar bone. Had it from day one (17,000 miles).
Opted for the MRA Vario, looks really nice and does a good job of reducing the buffeting and noise would give it 9 out of 10, the light smoke colour looks nice with a silver bike, quite happy to ride open face at the national speed limit ;D
Must be my height . But I find the GTR very good for wind noise , with no Buffeting at all. It's a standard screen. I ride with it about just under half way up I reckon. Right down & it tries to rip my hands off the handle bars , right up there is some turbulence.
The FJR was a pig for it for sure & the forums crammed full of different screen ideas. None of which I believe were too successful.
It's one of the reasons I went for a GTR this time , was lack of wind noise..after two Fjr's ....
How tall are you Ziderman, the screen sounds pretty cool, looks a little different with the extra bit tho.
Have you noticed any changes in fuel consumption?
Cheers
5"8 13 1/2 stone.... It's a standard screen too.
I may go for the MRA Vario as a summer screen. The Cee Baileys definitely works for me in winter, but in summer its nice to have the wind blasting against the body
well at 5foot 8 standard screen works for me ,i am thinking of getting the laminar lip so when my son is on the back he dosent get hit and the laminar lip from what i have read seems to work pretty good with the gtr.
