Post by: Therenback on August 15, 2011, 08:52:16 PM
After reading thread an eyeballing LW's pics on hugger, still undecided on fitting one but as the sunshine coast is havin another wet summer i'm fitting an R&G shock tube this week. that an dose of acf50  should keep rust at bay.

I've seen those tubes on Ebay but I think if I had the choice between that and a hugger, the hugger would be my preference.

I dont think huggers do a great deal as regards keeping the clag off the bike, they just distribute it to a different place. And those posh shock " Johnny bags" are as much use as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest. In my opinion there is no substitute for washing your bike as often as possible, and giving it huge doses of scot oil 365, if it must be used in winter time. :)

no aftermarket product should be used as substitute for regular cleaning,  that's like not breathing out !! Bike gets washed before kettle goes on.  :-) LW I just being tight with my brass an will probably end up ordering hugger.

I have to disagree with the comment that the hugger does nothing to protect the body from dirt. I used to ride the GTR without one and the shock was shocking, since fitting the hugger I've had no major crap collecting on the shock. How can it? The hugger sits about 1/2inch above the rear wheel, everything gets thrown back onto the road.

your right, always used a hugger when riding sports extends life of parts, shock tube useful keepin some salt an muck off, they use a cable ties at either end so easily removed and replaced when washing or servicing ride.

got sent wrong size, reordered tube 10" X 11.5" should fit. FH i know what you mean very small margin between fore side of spring and swing arm, i found using side stand gave mm couple more mm to play with. :-X

Huggers are so important in keeping the bike " clean " in winter .... would never be without one.  ;D

As I might as well own muck-off shares (its not about having rot on bike)  will get on skidmarx website. Noticed wish list for bikestarting to grow recently:-$

I fitted a shock tube when the back wheel was off for new tyre. Lots of swearing and knuckle bleeding but not fitted and seems to be staying put around the shock.
