Title: Camshaft timing marks off?
Post by: crisp on April 18, 2022, 07:06:45 AM
Hi guys, hope I've posted this in the correct section if not can admin move please? I have replaced valves & timing chain on my 2017 (long story) but for some reason when the crank is set at TDC the intake & exhaust cam timing marks are off by about 1mm, intake mark being high & exhaust being low?  Would anyone know if this is acceptable or not? Tried to send pic's but do not have correct format. Thanks

Do you have the VVT set to minimum advance?
According to the manual they should be parallel to the head and each other.
The VVT only moves the intake cam so could be the cause.

Hi Boomer, thanks for replying. The VVT is fixed to the intake cam so I'm not sure what your trying to tell me? Are you saying the VVT moves? Ride safe

Yes, the drive gear will move in relation to the cam to adjust the valve timing. That is how the Variable Valve Timing works.

What I dont understand is why the intake timing mark is 1mm high? The VVT must be in neutral initially?
