the current silence on here is positively deafening.
So for starters I'll tell you that I have an appointment with an Osteopathic consultant tomorrow, the plan is to get a new hip to replace the knackered one that I'm currently dragging around with me
It's been really bloody painful for months and months, so fingers crossed for a painless biking future
Rog, I don't think you'll actually get the hip replacement tomorrow. You might have to go back at a later date to collect it. :mfr_lol:
On a serious note, good luck, with a bit of luck you'll have it done this month. Let us know how you get on.

I was hoping to pick up a parcel with a D.I.Y hip in it :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Will keep everyone posted

hiya Nigel, I will update my post with the latest developments
Hope that you and yours are very well
Latest update is
Went to BMI Healthcare in Lancaster yesterday for a consultation, without going into too much detail they were pretty useless...nuff said
So have another appointment booked at Spire Healthcare Blackpool (where I should've gone in the first place ) for Friday
These people sound to be very organised and indicate that they can deal with my issue in 6 weeks rather than the 4 months I was quoted yesterday
Further updates due before too long ... I'm a happy chappy again now

I was Steve, but feeling more optimistic now
Good news Roger. Some time ago now but my daughter had some proper big back / spinal surgery at Spire Southampton and they were hyper efficient and it was 5*.. so it should have been for what they charged ! :mfr_lol:

Nigel, my dealings with Spire Healthcare at Blackpool has, so far, been restricted to a phone call and a couple of e-mails, I can confirm that their level of professionalism has/is outstandingly good, so your 5* rating seems to be accurate to me.
I reckon my stay may be like a short 5* holiday

Today's meeting with a specialist consultant at Spire Healthcare Fylde, was amazingly good
Extremely professional and most impressive
The big bonus is I don't have to wait a projected 3 - 6 months.....in fact I'm booked in on 7th December this year
Good news Roger .. you get what you pay for
I know the thought of somone advancing towrds you with a scalpel may be a bit daunting (even if you have been given some happy gas) - but if it leads to a better future, bring it on.
Good luck and best wishes.
Pete.
Thanks Nigel and Pete, I'm really quite excited about getting this out of the way and getting my life back on track.
Well guys, it's been an experience, I underwent my total hip replacement on December 7th at the Spire Fylde Hospital and have been recovering since then
Pain during recovery is part of the procedure which is to be expected and I have experienced some of that
My recovery began with moving around with the aid of a walking frame, progressing onto crutches, then walking sticks and now just a single walking stick.....TBH I'm a bit fed up now but need to be patient as it will take time. I'm currently able to walk a few steps without the aid of a stick, (some days are better than others) it'll be a while longer before I'm back on two wheels, my consultant says I should be 100% by summertime ! I was hoping for a quicker recovery rate, but time and patience ( I'm not known for being patient) will tell
So there you have it
Hang in there. It'll soon be a distant memory.
Cheers George..... you're right of course :agree:
I think our instinct is usually a good guide to how far we can push ourselves.
The danger is doing 40 miles and feeling sure you can manage another 10 but forgetting it is then another 50 to get beack home!
Take it steady, a bit at a time...
we ended up walking the streets of Carlisle yesterday looking for a certain shop.....we didn't find it after walking miles. The upside was enjoying a large Chocolate drink in Hotel Chocolate .....mmmmmmm, loverly
The point of this story is that after all that trudging around I have actually had a better day today and feel a little more normal (as long as my stick is within reach) :mfr_lol:
Is it not the case that everyone should carry a stick when in Carlisle anyway? :whistling:
