Hi
Has anybody had or know of any problems with Metzler Z8's tyres?
I have just had a phone call from FH to say the Z8 rear tyre has just stated to "come apart/delaminate". He was out on a local ride and felt the rear tyre was feeling odd and when he looked at it it was starting to come apart and it had got to the point where he didn't feel safe to continue riding with the tyre in that condition. He has managed to get some new tyres fitted this morning, a set of PR3's. The Z8's where fitted just before our trip to France and he reckons he has done about 5000 miles on them. When I meet up with FH not that long ago the tyres looked in pretty good condition + plus he was out earlier this week and the tyre seemed fine.
I have suggested that he contacts Metzler, sends them a photo and ask the question about what is going on?
No doubt FH will fill in all the details later on today when he gets back.

Not come across that before and its downright dangerous. Would certainly get in touch with metzler
Grrrrr.....not a happy bunny!......I had a local tyre chappie fit a used conti tyre £15 incl fitting as the Z8 had to come off immediately , then hunted high for somewhere with pr3's in stock....I was taking a chance the front was going to go the same way.......was out on a advanced training run last night and checked the tyre prior to leaving...all was fine....5 miles down the road from my house this morning I had a least 2 dozen 2cm long cracks, running horizontally across th contact patch...where the cracks were closest together the rubber had started to lift off the radial......not good.....I may have had a small pressure loss too.....but luckily I was close to a tyre place I knew of........email and photo will be going off to Metzler on Monday......until this is resolved, I would think twice before before putting Z8's on your GTR....... pictures to follow
I've never heard of such a rapid deteriation in a tyre before. :o
Hope you get a favourable response from Metzler.
Can understand you being angry, hope they give tyre good going over in case recall needed. Glad you still here to tell tale FH
fh, I still have the tyre receipt if you need it.
They should as a goodwill gesture offer a replacement. it maybe just a one off, but I personally wouldn't risk it
There are stories and pics of this happening to PR3's also.
Had it happen to me many many many years ago with a Dunlop and they refunded me through the garage who fitted the tyre.
That IS strange ... never heard of a tyre going bad so quickly .... I would think and hope that as a good will gesture you may be in for some free rubber or certainly part thereof ... not heard of any problems with the PR 3's ( he says as they are going on the bike soon ) !
Photos will be of great help too. Let us know what happens.

I have to say that I have over 6000 miles on my PR3's and haven't had or seen any sign of any problems.

Blimey ! Those pictures show he lucky he is ! To be fair though, whatever has happened, and it's clearly a heat related problem, I would think that it could happen to any tyre, anywhere. I have never heard or seen that happening in all my years, and there are a lot of them and I would suggest that he has just been unlucky. I know it doesn't help but there you go. My tyres are up for replacement soon and it won't put me off from getting a set of PR 3's.
I've just had a look at those pics of the PR3, gotta say I'm shocked. They must be defective batch or something surely?
