Title: Rear shock oem swap
Post by: Moogus on November 18, 2020, 03:14:59 PM
Hi all,

Would anyone happen to know if a rear shock unit from a 2015-2018 GTR will fit my 2011 GTR?
Many thanks 😊

It should do because it's the same model isn't it?

A parts list should confirm that...

I thought the 2 models were very similar. The shock itself looks identical to the 2011 shock.
Info from the seller suggested it is the same but firmer which I feel, as I'm mostly going to be touring 2 up, will be perfect.

...I took the plunge and bought it. If it doesn't fit I can always sell it again  :innocent:

The shock assembly part numbers are subtly different.

2011  45014-0429-23A  That same part number is used in the 2013 and 2014  assuming 2012 as well.

2018  45014-0509-23A used in 2015-2020 bikes

Bear in mind that this doesn't mean it won't fit but you're taking your chances.  Kwackers changed something in it for 2015 on...

Thanks for that VJ. The change might be the firmness as suggested by the seller.

Not a huge problem. As said, I can always sell it on if no use to me.

Most likely they fixed the sticking preload adjusters. 😁

Arrived today. Its in good condition. Adjuster turns ok, its a little stiff but not sure if that's normal as my original is seized.

I think I'll leave it soaking in wd40 before I fit it to the moose (my gtr)

Counted 16 clicks in total which, I think, is less than earlier units...
