Hi,
Thought I'd pop in and say hello.
I live in The Blackdown Hills area of North East Devon (2 miles south of the Devon/Somerset border. Been riding bikes since I was 12 years old, 47 years ago! But hadn't ridden for 8 years.
Having fancied owning a 1400gtr for quite some time, I finally got around to buying mine in early August this year. What a fabulous machine. Best bike I've ever owned/Ridden. My better half and I went touring a lot before children stopped play, so its really wonderful to be both back on the bike. Off to East Sussex next week for our 28th anniversary and my birthday, really looking forward to that.
Considering lowering the bike as I'm a shorty at 5'8", can't decide on a seat trim or dogbone kit. Just want to feel comfortable when coming to a standstill and walking manoeuvring.
In any event, its just wonderful being back 😊
Welcome Moogus,
A few on here have lowered their GTR's, I used the Lust racing lowering kit. Sorts the rear out, they recommend a 12mm reduction of the front forks to keep the bike level. The side stand then keeps the bike a little upright so you have to be a little careful where you park. Applying some weight to the side stand can increase the angle it holds the bike at without any need for any major surgery. The centre stand becomes difficult to use. I carry a block of wood about the thickness of a fag packet in the top box. I bump the rear tyre onto the block, the centre stand works fine then. No problems with cornering ground clearance and you don't have to compromise the comfort of the seat. Happy riding, Regards Steve
Hi Steve,
Thanks for your suggestion. I am a little dubious about trimming the seat foam, or putting in firmer, thinner foam and compromising comfort. I reckon I could live with the suspension and its stands issues, so may give that a go!

Hi Colin,
I suggest the R & G adventure bars to protect the (front) plastic when the inevitable happens. You can get rear pannier protectors (canion cages - american) as I have fitted for the rear. Then you need to get the rear peg lowering kit for "her in doors" as her feet won't fit on the pegs if you fit the rear crash bars. Either way you spend a little or you spend a lot depending on your luck. Of course you could get insoles for a few quid that increase your inside leg by an inch, enough to feel secure on the bike. But I could never advise such a femine thing to a fella, even if it makes complete economic sense. :innocent:
Hello Colin and :185:
Good to hear you are back on the bike scene
:185: along Colin
Welcome and congratulations on being able to post anything on the forum. That should qualify you for a special prize.....but it doesn't. :mfr_lol:
Thanks for the replies and kind welcome. It is great to be back with like minded people.
I whimped out on the dogbone kit and had the seat foam trimmed by a local upholsterer (also a biker btw). Has improved how i feel on the bike, longer ride 2 up tomorrow for a comfort check....have kept the foam so I can put it back in if need be
We went over to Combe Martin on Monday 14th to look at a camp site we fancy going to next year.
We could have met up to put a face to a name. Maybe next time.
Mick.
Absolutely Mick, coffee at Lynmouth for next time. Some lovely riding and scenery out there...especially Exmoor!

I'd be up for that, if you'll have a ZZR along
Absolutely
Welcome along Moogus.
I was in Combe Martin yesterday, but sadly I was in the car and wishing I was on the bike - that A39 looks quite "rideable"
Enjoy the GTR.
Pete.
