There are jokes, and then there are jokes. Yours falls into one of those categories, I shall leave it to you to decide which!! :mfr_lol:

Too kind
Are you camping, looking for B&Bs or hotels?
Not sure if you are set on doing it as a circuit or breaking it into chunks from perhaps three locations... sometimes it's good to have a base if you are not riding to a schedule and on a paricularly wet day you can spend it in a bar and therefore dodge the expense of @Nitty Gritty 's umbrella hire charges.
If you have not sorted out dates it may be worth giving consideration to the last two weeks in August as the children are back in school in Scotland by mid-August so roads and accommodation are a bit less congested and you still have half a chance of decent weather.
Pete.
I have just come back from doing that !! :mfr_lol:!
8 nights camping up from the Sussex coast and it was FAB .. wet but FAB ! I was going to bore you all with a day by day thread when I get around to finding the time.... but I shall do it for you and will make the effort in the next couple of days

Please do, I for one like to hear of other's experiences on the road.
Rusty
That would be great.

We are looking at B&B or hotels, and doing it all in one go with stop overs as we go. Thinking of September, but August is good to.
I have done it numerous times in one fashion or another. The traditional route is Inverness, over to the West Coast, Applecross up to John O'Groats and then back to Inverness. However I am reading now that more people are choosing to go up the East Coast and do John O'Groats first and then head towards Applecross etc. The advantage of this is that unquestionably the West Coast is more visually appealing that the East Coast. So in other words, mile by mile the views just get better and better!
I typed a load of stuff re N500 but couldn't post a word
Deleted cookies hopefully things will improve.
I did the N500 in June to avoid the midges. Still got the horizontal rain, so didn't miss out on much else. Enjoyed the scenery, long stretches on the West coast are single track with passing places. Adjust your daily mileage to suit the time of year and the amount of camper vans/caravans you're likely to encounter.
Good luck, I tried that and it didn't make any difference.
Although obviously its allowed me to type this. :mfr_lol:
I seem to be on a role so I'm going to try and post something else.
A number of years ago when I did the John O'Groats thing via the NC500 I stayed here twice, once with Rusty and the second time with Charlie 747. Its a husband and wife team although I believe the Mrs, (Gail) is more involved than her husband David. David is a local shell fisherman and the seafood at the local pub/restaurant is often food which he has caught only hours earlier, you don't get much fresher than that.

She was so friendly and helpful that not only did she provide us with free beers when we arrived but she ran us down to the local pub and collected us at the end of the evening which was well above and beyond what we expected. Nigel forgot to take his iPad charger so she rang around her neighbours and located one with a charger and borrowed it so that Nigel could charge up his tech stuff. That was very kind of her.
That WAS a great trip wasn't it ? Such a lovely couple and as you can see ... a super place to stay ! I WILL get a thread done for the NC500 but time has flashed by since I got back last week .. all good intentions etc :mfr_lol: I am off to Cornwall tomorrow with Mrs Rusty for a few days of chilling so I promise to do it when I return .. honestly ! Thanks for posting those photos Steve

They say the pathway to hell is paved with good intentions Nigel, :mfr_lol: so after you and Mrs Rusty return we expect a resume of your NC500 trip
East to West is sounding more appealing, and also moved our dates into August rather than September, that accommodation looks very nice. Just hope this kennel cough thing has abated by then.
If/when I do the route again, I will definitely complete it East to West. As I mentioned previously that way around everything visually improves mile by mile.
Mrs Moogus and I are seriously considering riding the NC500 at the end of September 2021, when I'll be hitting the big 60. Make it a birthday to remember. Haven't started any planning as yet but will definitely be using small hotels and b&b's. As we're coming up from Devon we'll probably make it a week long trip, maybe 10 days.
Having watched a few videos of the route, the Applecross section looks like it might be problematic fully loaded plus pillion...looks fabulous though.
I think Applecross fully loaded with pillion in September with high winds rain and low viz may be "interesting" !! I am sure you will enjoy it regardless.
Was going to do my update this weekend but going away (again) AND I have to sort out my photos onto some online thingy that stores them and puts them on here :undecided: :undecided:(too difficult light is starting to shine)
