Title: top up tyre's
Post by: tapps on June 07, 2020, 08:48:03 AM
yesterday i went to adjust the tyre pressures on my kawasaki gtr1400,i got my michelin foot pump out,i had hell of a job screwing the
connector on to the valve, the front was awful.after finally getting it on & a few pump's later i noticed a leak from the pipe on the
pump.i have an electric plug in pump which i use on the car,it plugs into a cigarette socket.
i managed to find a 90 degree angle valve extension adaptor in my toolbox, it certainly made the job a little easier.

 :agree:

Why manufacturers (BMW excepted) don't fit them as standard is beyond me

I have them fitted when I get my tyres change, they make an amazing difference

I know Roger .. drives me mad .. they could easily do them as standard, like fender extenders etc ... simple surely !

👍👍

There is always one stored in my little cubbyhole for use in garages etc .
And there is one connected to my little pump I carry in the topbox.

2 years ago I invested in a £99 Stanley compressor which came with tyre inflater and 4 other attachments for blowing and spraying. (other makes are available and probably as good). I can honestly say it makes such a difference to use this to accurately inflate the tyres on 2 motorcycles, 2 cars, 2 bicycles, a trailer, a caravan, a scooter, 2 electric unicycles and a wheelbarrow. The valve attachment is flexible enough for just about any tyre. On the GTR it's a doddle.
Yesterday I replaced the tube in one of the bicycle tyres and had it inflated and back on the bike in 5 minutes.
Since most filling station tyre inflation machines round here are digital (set the required pressure and hold button until it bleeps) and appear to have a max pressure of about 35psi they're useless for the 42psi required for the Kawasaki so it's definitely one of my most used tools.

I understand the Stanley is meant to be a pretty good bit of kit ... so for your tyres then don,t need an adaptor .. all comes with it ?

It comes with a 5 piece accessory kit including a flexible hose with connector on the end (see photos) that allows me to fit it onto just about any tyre valve.
I'll admit it doesn't really have the oomph for paint spraying - you have to stop and wait for it to re-pressurise too often to be practical but it's OK for putting stain on a fence or similar. The attachment for just blowing air is great for cleaning dust off stuff eg. blowing grass and debris off the lawnmower. I got it from Screwfix. Still on their site. For not a huge amount of money, it's much more convenient than a foot pump /cigar lighter pump etc and I use it a couple of times a week so for me it's a  justified spend.
