I'm sure I heard the same. From Wednesday you can ride to a place of exercise. With members of your own household. Then sit 2M away from others.

wehey, out we go.

As long as you stay alert and don't travel to Wales, or Scotland it seems you can go for a ride anywhere you want without the fear of repercussions.

I've never heard such a wishy washy update.

Yes clearly a very unclear bulletin.

N.I is still in lockdown, so no change here  :nono:

I have to say I didn't find the update confusing

Roger, I think it's the words, Stay Alert. It is very vague and difficult to interpret in every day life. I suspect that once again different Police Forces will interpret it in their own unique way, if you are issued with a fine for not staying alert, how do you prove you were staying alert. It's a very subjective application, unlike stay at home, when you are either at home or you're not.   :mfr_lol:

Spose that instead of Stay Alert they could have use, 'use some common sense'           :mfr_lol:

Most  people seem to have found Boris's message yesterday quite confusing. It was certainly contradictory. But with the  nature of the man it's hardly surprising. He tries to be rather Churchilian  but is not in the same league.

I know what you mean Pete, but I do think that he's just like that.

When I think of others who were trying to become PM then Boris is by far the best option

I emailed Arlene Foster today suggesting that here in NI we need to fast track the electric bicycle legislation. To get people commuting but staying off public transport as far as possible.

Because our politicians took a 3 year holiday from Parliament, e bikes here are still motorcycles needing helmet licence mot insurance registration etc. I copied the email  to my local MLA (=MP).

Mrs Foster didn't reply (quelle surprise) but my local MP replied 10 mins later from her phone to say the legislation is due to go before Parliament tomorrow.

So, hopefully electric bikes legal here at last.

Now I need to push them to extend that to my electric unicycle. Might go out on it post lockdown and argue it's just a one wheeled e bike if pulled.

Bloody Hell that looks like a too risky activity for this old git, especially near water   :mfr_lol:

I should have said the video isn't of me. It's of a few blokes in Torquay, one of which I bought the unicycle from.

I have a 15 second video of me riding it taken on my phone but it's an mp4 file 40mb in size and I don't have any way to edit it down to an acceptable file size to upload here.

I like to challenge myself to learn new things. That one was more difficult than I expected.

Do you need to have insurance for the unicycle, I know you do for the segways.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZVs0l1BjTE

I had a go on one in someones house and nearly went through the kitchen window.  :mfr_lol:

I thought those Segway thingies had handle bars to cling on to ....to me it looks like an accident looking for somewhere to happen

Sadly people have been killed using these

I mastered the hoverboard in 15 minutes. Found it really easy. Not sure why, just did. The unicycle is a whole other ball game. Really had to stick with it. The secret is, when riding a bicycle slowly, you twist the front wheel left and right. You need to do the same on the unicycle until your brain figures it out. Just like learning to ride a bicycle as a child but a bit harder. Got there in the end. Has a range of about 15 miles, top speed 20kph.

Got it for stupid price on ebay from one of the guys in that video. Intend to ride it mostly in France where anything goes and there are very few people about.

People have been killed riding motorcycles. Yet I still do it 44 years later. I ride the unicycle at the equivalent of a person jogging slowly and keep a strap on it so that if anything happens it doesn't hit someone on the shins. I also stayed well away from people with it until I was as confident of not falling off as I am on a bicycle. Common sense.
You do get some odd looks, though.

Update :- Got a phone call this evening from my local MLA (MP) to tell me the legislation on electrically assisted pedal cycles passed on Tuesday.

Step 1 of lockdown being lifted here on Monday 18 May.

Two bits of good news, Roger.

Well some of the shackles are off here ... we can now meet in groups of up to 6 outdoors... so our (4 of us) plan is to ride out on Thursday as the forecast is fair

That is good we are only allowed to meet one other, not part of our family outdoors but must keep our distance.

That's certainly how it is supposed to be, but on my three recent ride outs I've often come accross groups of between two and six bikes riding together. I'm not going to judge, I suppose it is up to us all individually to make a decision based on common sense. My only worry is that if sense was common, there would be more of it.
