Title: Dead battery
Post by: Cartman on July 22, 2011, 04:42:52 PM
Took the bike to fill up with fuel this morning, loaded the panniers all in readiness to go and meet up with wife and son in Dorset this afternoon. Went to leave and dead bike, nothing, no little red light, no joy with either key. Spoke to dealer, very helpful, checked transponder battery, fuses etc no joy!

Took the battery out dead as a dodo, after 3200 miles in 6 weeks. No weekend away for me :-[

Can't you get your hands on another battery at short notice to avoid ruining your weekend plans?

Did you leave some equipment on last night?

Trickle charge it tonight?

Dealer has a battery waiting for me first thing tomorrow, will put this one on charge overnight. Nothing left on and ignition locked, that's what's odd!

Sorry to hear the news and hope it doesn't ruin your weekend plans too much :(

Batteries do just sometimes just fail, the reliability of batteries is very high these days and failures are rare but they do sometimes just fail.

Happened to me on my Norge a couple of years ago. Filled up with fuel got back to the house to pick up the Baroness, my mate is there waiting engine running, hit the button and nothing......bloody annoying.

Turned out after my 3rd battery (on the other occasions it wouldn't start it just gave the symptoms of a dead battery) I found there is a wiring mod on the Guzzi' s to fix it. By which time I'd made the decision to swap the bike.

I duly fixed it and 3 months later swapped it for the GTR.....just because I didn't trust it any more.

It's a shame because I like Guzzi's and wish I'd never sold a V11 I had years ago (I know I'm not quite normal) but I can't tolerate bike that fail with no warning.......I spent 20 years as a truck mechanic and I now hate mending stuff.
