Hi guys, I was wondering if any body had removed the secondary butterflies & had just run it stock with no reflash or PCV? Is there a risk of engine damage? Cheers
I own a 07 plate 21500 miles removed secondary butterflies years ago no re flash all I run is a vance and Hines cs1 exhaust .kn filter ....had no probs what ever runs sweet
Thanks for the reply
For the sake of socialising in a post pandemic world of masks and well, social distancing 😅
What exactly is the purpose of the secondary butterflies?

The primary butterflies aree connected directly to the throttle. You twist your wrist, the engine goes faster. The secondary 'flies are controlled by the ECU and although the main ones might be fully open the secondaries dont start to open up a great deal until you are north of 6000 revs. You'll soon notice this when doing a hard acceleration from low speed.
Kawasaki believe that you are not capable of handling all the awesome power of the GTR from the get-go without some help. Wouldn't want you falling off!
Personally I'd rather get the ECU reflashed so that the secondaries open up much earlier, say 2000 revs. I did read somewhere that the secondary 'flies also help with the traction control, by slamming shut when wheelspin is detected, but I have no proof that this is how it operates
Ah OK, so like a ride by wire nanny system. I thought it might be something akin to an exhaust valve system that helps produce low down torque that then opens up at higher rpms to allow for more high end horsepower. Wrong end of the respiratory system hey 😅
So ECU flash, plug in module (or at least that's what I think I saw a few days ago on some random site) or manual manipulation. What would be the easiest way of telling if the flies have been let out already?

Take the tank off and have a look under those round ally cover thingies
It seems I still have a fly infestation but I reckon I'd rather save up and go the flash route. The question did pop into my mind though, what if the previous owner had it flashed already? Is there any way to tell? I'd ask him but Edison never quite perfected his phone to contact the deceased (he unfortunately passed a while back in a motorcycle accident).
Most companies that flash your ECU put a sticker on it with the date, and the ECU code.
