Post by: tapps on March 24, 2020, 09:18:17 PM
my gtr was booked in for its MOT on the 31st of this month,i called alf's motorcycle's to cancel the booking, they have closed untill further notice,i guess a lot of the other MOT station's have done the same in these troubled time's, where do i stand regarding the LAW.

No change. All vehicles used on public roads must have a current MOT unless exempt class

HGV's and buses currently can continue to be used without a valid MOT test certificate. A review of bikes and cars is currently taking place.

Obviously drivers hours are also being relaxed, things are changing on virtually a daily basis. We are in uncharted territory but in the interest of keeping the economy moving many legal motoring requirements are being relaxed.

my bike was booked in for the 31st of this month, it actually runs out on the 6th of april, after the 6th i will not ride it, am i right in saying i can ride it to a MOT station after the 6th as long as it's BOOKED IN in advance, as most will be shut down like ALFS MOTORCYCLES is, due to COVID-19.

Apparently new guidance issued today extends mot by 6 months if due between March and September. Not got time to look for it now but it should be on .Gov site somewhere.

after the end of march every vehicle is given a 6 month exemption on testing, but needs to be kept road worthy

Be interesting to see if you can tax it online without an MOT

Apparently, once the exemption is in place for your vehicle, you can tax it online as the system will pick up the extension

Check MOT history, https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

If your MOT is extended by 6 months, it should show up on the Gov.UK site.
