Title: Hartside top cafe Sunday
Post by: 100milesaway on July 20, 2011, 05:48:34 PM
Hartside top cafe Cumbria this Sunday the 24th, Kawasaki road show take your two part licence along and have a test ride on any of the big Ks range of bikes which in its self will be fantastic but will be made all the better by the awesome roads all around that area. If any one fancies it I intend to be at "The Bridge" at Kirby   Lonsdale at 9 bells, and ride up to Hartside via Sedburgh, Kirby Steven, Brough, Middleton in Teesdale then Alston, any one who has done this route will know that it's built for bikes, and is visually spectacular. They have a first class menu at the cafe and are very bike friendly. Oh and I just fancy a test ride on a W 800. Anybody fancy it, the ride that is not the W800. cheers   Geoff ;D

Geoff, you can count me in. This sounds like a good one. I've checked the weather and even that, at the moment looks favourable. ;D

I'm not sure if I can get to the bridge for 9am but we'll sort something out, I might have to meet you at the cafe.

RE; Hartside Cafe
Wth regards to the Kawasaki Day on sunday and the guys that are meeting up in the Northern area and riding up together.
I was thinking of maybe joining up with you (timings tbc) but if not possible see you there !!!!
But being new to the forum and not knowing anybody how will I know who`s who ??? Do you have any stickers on bikes etc to say GTR club because I would imaging lots of Kawasaki`s being there !
Cheers sidders :)

Thats a good point, I was going to say look out for the black GTR but now that you've mentioned it there may be more than one there! ::)
There's nothing specific about my bike that would make it stand out from any other.....

Suggestions are welcome, but if NB comes he will be coming from Huddersfield and I live in Bradford so we could always meet at a mutual location on the way out to Keighley or Skipton.

Sidders, as above, I'd want to get to Devils Bridge to meet Geoff no later than 09:45. I think it'll take a good hour to an hour and a quarter to get to the bridge and then there's the ride up to Alston. So I'll be setting off from home about 8:15 or 8:30ish.

Sidders if we say 10 bells at "Devils bridge" Kirby Lonsdale do you know where that is? If not we can meet you up at Hartside cafe, If it helps I will be in all black, but with distinctive( Pink )  armbands.( I await lots of flack from our southern  shandy drinking section) :P and my bike which is green has a " Silver fox " badge on the l/h inside fairing panel. If you can get to the "Bridge" though i'm sure you will love the ride up.     cheers Geoff ;D

Geoff, I'll meet you at the bridge no later than 9:45. If Sidders comes on line later and he wishes I'll meet him near Bradford/Keighley whichever is easiest for him.
I've sent a text to NB to see whether he's coming, hopefully he will be as it'll be a great day out.

Hey !!!!  Why would a shandy drinking southerner like me take the piss out of anyone wearing pink armbands ??

In my world I have to be diverse, understanding, all embracing, overarching, underarching, community loving, totally impartial, and hate anyone who would create a hostile environment to anyone who was in the slightest any bit different to you or I  ;D ;D ;D

Pink armbands ??? Bring em on !!!!

What a day, things almost got off to a bad start when I wheeled the GTR out of the garage, pressed the ignition and it just spluttered, slowly churning the motor over with me thinking, Sh*t! not a great start and then thankfully it fired into life without any further problems at all during the day. Its never done that before so it was a bit unnerving, its always fired on the first press so it looks like I might be requiring a new battery sooner rather than later.

Anyway I digress, back to the point, firstly I met up with NB at Hein Gericke in Bradford at 8:30 before setting out on the short ride to Keighley some twelve or so miles away. The weather looked promising but after the previous weekends appaling weather which consisted of terrential rain from start to finish I wasn't taking anything for granted. In hindsight however I needn't have worried. NB and I arrived at McDonalds at Keighley where Paul (Sidders) was waiting for us, introductions all round and then I set off leading out to Devils Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale to meet Geoff (100milesaway).

I think it was just after 10am when the three of us arrived at the bridge to be confronted with wall to wall bikes. NB got talking to a group of riders who I believe they said they had come from Rochdale area, all of them on 125cc's  :o

More introductions.... Geoff on the left with those pink armbands,  ::)

and Paul on the right.

NB having a chat with some fellowbikers....

A typical turn out at Devils Bridge.

Paul's steed.

From Kirkby Lonsdale, Geoff took the lead, guiding us through many small villages and up towards our final destination. In a blink of an eye Geoff and NB were away and couldn't even be seen on the horizon. Thankfully they stopped here and there to give us an opportunity to catch up. He might wear pink armbands but he can certainly push the GTR when he wants to!  ;D

After a short stint still heading up towards the Summit Cafe we all stopped for a leg stretch by the side of the road, I said to NB, "How fast were you going through that village where the speed camera van was?" Back came that classic retort...."What speed camera van?"

We all eventually arrived at Hartside Summit to a jammed car park full of bikes which we picked our way through and got parked up.

The staff at the Cafe had laid on a BBQ for the attendees.

There were plenty of bikes to choose from to take for a test ride but as could be expected the waiting list for some of the 'better' bikes was quite lengthy.

Those Asian lads :D They were from Nelson. Kept on calling it a Crapasaki. Not that he could talk being on an Aprilia.

Yeah my bike is dirty and Paul's was showroom clean. Made me feel all dirty.  :D

Thought I had spotted Jenny Tinmouth, was about to ask for a photo. LW accused me of trying to chat her up. Mrs Bates would not be impressed.

The route was awesome. I'm planning on doing it again someday, maybe with a few more scenic stops. Geoff really threw his bike around the corners. Thankfully the pink didn't affect his bike performance.
