Today I took out my rear wheel, ready to have the Pirelli Angel GT2 tyre fitted. It was much easier than I expected even though I have fitted a rear mudguard extender. Plenty of room to get the wheel out. The whole procedure was much easier than on my last two previous bikes, R1100RT and ST1100. I've also found the torque settings from the manual for the re-fit.
I was going to remove the front wheel but I had to go out and buy a 22mm Hex key, (not very well prepared!) so once I'd got my garage overalls off and washed up it was getting late so I've decided to remove it tomorrow.
Tyres are on the way from Oponeo, weights removed, then I'll take the lot down to the fitters and get em changed.
Anyone else been tinkering on in the garage over these holidays?
I tried to dig up a ground anchor I sunk into concrete a year ago in the garage. I get the feeling it's going to be a work in progress as it doesn't want to come up! I will not be beaten though. :mfr_lol:
Going slightly off topic ... sorry ... but that just reminds me about 15 yrs ago when "my builder" was laying the concrete in the back of the garden for the childrens playhouse ... "pity the poor bastard who tries to dig this lot up .. chuckle chuckle ... " ... you guessed it .. 15 yrs later with a kango drill hammer thingy ... no chance .. just left it and put decking over the top !!
PS .... glad your wheel came off easily !!
When I used to have my rear wheel off I also removed the diff and lubricated the driveshaft splines both ends, had it down to an hour for the whole job, it's not difficult if you have a trolley jack.
Getting wheels off ... at least on my car (a BM by the way !)... is a pleasure .. exposes so many nooks and crannies to clean polish and wax ... I mean why would you NOT wax the inside part of your wheels that no one is ever going to see ???
Do you honestly take your own wheels off, I would have expected you to have staff for such manual work.
Please do be careful. :mfr_lol:

That's a good shout, might aswell do that while I'm on. Also spun the bobbins on the front rotors this morning, very satisfying. Sad isn't it ?

It's not sad at all, it's satisfying all round, rotation of the bobbins is a must, or it was for me on mine.

I still make sure that the front wheel rotor bobbins are not stuck ..... I also find the process mildly therapeutic
Now you boys are talking .... if I knew what a bobbin was I would be spinning it ! I love all that sort of stuff .... not sad, just being thorough ! :mfr_lol:

Tyres still in transit from Oponeo, now with DPD according to the tracking links. One for each tyre!
At present I wouldn't recommend Oponeo. They might be cheap and they advertise 4-5 days delivery. How will that happen from Germany !!
Make sure DPD don't steal your tyres. I returned two car snow tyres on the run up to Christmas via DPD but was only credited for one by the seller. When I queried this with the seller they informed me I had only given one to the driver. Thankfully I was able to prove to them via CCTV that the driver had collected two from my address and driven off with two. The seller promptly credited me for the cost of the outstanding tyre and then took it up with DPD. The DPD driver insisted I had only given him one tyre until confronted with the CCTV footage.
There are some opportunist thieving bastards on the run up to Christmas. I've no doubt they would have moved the tyre on for a fraction of the cost leaving me significantly out of pocket and not a leg to stand on. The seller who is a reputable tyre supplier in the UK who sell mostly by mail order told me straight that if I hadn't been able to prove two tyres were collected they would have assumed it was me who was trying to fleece them!
Needless to say they were quite shocked at the conduct of the DPD driver.
Maybe that should say ex, DPD driver. :nono:
Both have arrived safe and sound. Getting fitted in the morning. I've got other jobs around the house tomorrow but will get them back on the bike Sunday.
Happy days.

Who are you getting to fit the tyres.
C&S in Boro Dave.

May I ask how much they charge fitting to a loose wheel and do they dynamically balance the wheel & tyre on a machine or just statically, thanks.
You've used them before Dave!
£15 per loose wheel, includes valve and balancing.

Thank you

Did you find what you were after Stephen?
Yes, thanks. I need to remove the rear wheel as, when I bought the bike, it had new tyres. Unfortunately the dealer's tyre fitter didn't bother to clean the rims when changing the tyres giving me slow punctures in both. Too much hassle, travelling etc to get them to rectify it so I removed the front wheel at the end of last summer and got a tyre fitter I trust to refit the tyre (rim was filthy and never going to seal )
Need to take the rear to him for same. I'll also see if changing the tpms battery fixes it whilst he has the tyre off. The front tpms was full of tyre foam and had properly died. I'll use cmos battery for laptop which comes in plastic with red and black cables which I'll solder to existing connections. Worth a try for a couple of quid.
Finally got time today to put the wheels back in, with new Angel GTII tyres fitted. All torqued up. Brake calipers serviced (3). Drive splines greased. Drive linkages oiled. Sat nav wired up to RHS auxilliary socket. Overall a good days work.
Now to get a good day without salt on the roads to scrub those tyres in !!
I'm thinking, Middlesbrough, Helmesley, Scarborough, Whitby, Middlesbrough. Plenty of nice roads there.
I haven't been to Whitby for a good few years now, there are some great roads round there and we generally used to call in at Goathland. I must make the effort to revisit sometime.
I like Whitby, (despite not being a Goth), there is a bench which is dedicated to my late school teacher John Dennison, overlooking the harbour entrance ... the best teacher ever IMHO

Thank you, I have seen a picture on FB but have never actually seen the bench myself, I visited before I heard about the bench/picture
Great place Whitby. Dracula likes it too!
In 2017 after Daytona in West London sold me a 2010 GTR that was should have been scrapped I ended up with a brand new very heavily discounted GTR.
To run it in we went the long way from North London to Chester, York and over to Whitby via the A171 & 174 and home via Lincoln. Waiting for a truck to pull out from a filling station North of Whitby without him looking it did and he hit us. I could have cried, I hadn't had the bike a week. We also had a ride to Northern Spain all booked up for August.
Long story short the bike got fixed in time for us to ride down to Getaria.
Carol Nash / New Law were useless,-you should settle 50/50- but I was stationary! - Just take the deal son.
Well I didn't, I got onto the actual insurer Aviva, who sent me an email saying that they did not hold me to be at fault in any way.
Their solicitor however told me to settle 50/50. Again I refused.
Last September without warning a letter came from them saying the other side had admitted full liability along with a cheque refunding my excess.
I wonder if all these linked solicitors want is to get everything settled in the most cost effective way regardless of inconvenient truths!
Still like Whitby tho..
O.C. We've found your Bench.
Brilliant, thanks Mick... I have replied to your P.M .... he was a special teacher back in the mid 60s - he was strict but committed, knowledgeable and always supportive of every student

Well today I finally got to scrub the tyres in. 170 miles.
Got the bike MOT'd this morning in Stockton-on-Tees then went for a run to Squires and back.
Took it steady early on then the tyres came into their own. Really good feel from them and they inspire confidence.
Now to clean the bike :-)
