Title: GTR for sale
Post by: flatfour on October 02, 2019, 05:56:12 PM
I took my BMW for service at Sycamore (previously Balderston) BMW at Peterborough today and, when I arrived a GTR was being loaded into a van, presumably for delivery. I then noticed that upstairs in the Showroom, there was another (66 Plate) GTR for sale. This bike had a "Wheels" motif on the number plate (a Kawasaki dealer just down the road from Sycamore) and a non - standard exhaust as distinguishing features.

I haven't seen so many GTR's in one place for a very long time and wondered whether anyone from the Forum has recently part - exchanged theirs for a BMW from Balderstons/Sycamore?

Pete, that explains it then. Having not seen a GTR for a good few months now, it seemed extraordinary to see two of them in one (non - Kawasaki) dealer in the same day!

I spotted those machines the other week in TJ's used stock and thought along the same lines as yourself Colin.
My old war horse was part exchanged in Norwich and ended up in a showroom in Derby earlier this year.  The only thing I don't miss was her body mass  :whistling:  which my K16 reminds me of evertime I have to move her.
PS new replacement to the fleet has more torque than GTR and more bhp than K16 but less than two thirds the body mass with panniers and top box fitted  :punk:

Just spotted this thread.
The one you saw being loaded was  mine, the 66 plate owner had traded in for an S1000XR.
We both turned up for a test ride of various bikes the same morning, he took out the XR and a 1250GS, and I took both those plus the 850.

The 66 plate was still in Sycamores last  week with a standard exhaust on the floor waiting to be fitted.

Doebag, it's good to see dealers selling their P/X bikes themselves rather than simply trading them out, it usually results in a better deal for the seller and provides variety in a dealership when looking for the next purchase.

I suppose that fitting a standard exhaust back to the bike might make it more saleable, certainly at this time of the year things will have slowed up and if I were a prospective buyer I would always prefer to buy a bike that hasn't had changes from standard. It probably makes it easier to insure as well, although I have no knowledge of trying to insure a modified bike myself.
