Title: Shuddering
Post by: sniperpiper on July 29, 2019, 10:32:59 PM
Hi Folks

Just had a new pair of Road Pilot 4 GT's fitted and an MOT done which was a pass with no advisory.
However im experiencing a judder at over 80 which becomes almost uncontrollable  at close to the ton.
Ive checked both wheels swing arm and head race bearings which all have no movement.
The wheels have new balance weights in different positions since the tyre change.
I'm hoping its just been a piss-poor tyre balancing job and nothing else!
The thing that confounds me is that the judder isnt constant its actually  rhythmic i.e starts and stops at a constant speed.

Any comments lads?

Neil

Double check the rear is the right size , I'd get a mate to have a go , check rear hugger not catching on the tyre ,

It's too much of a coincidence that this has occurred after the fitment of new tyres

It may be wheel balancing OR are these tyres rotational ?   I cant remember..... if so check that they are fitted the right way round

I would take it back to dealer who did tyres.. Don't risk yourself or a friend riding it.

Same as others, have the balancing checked again.

Had new PR4s fitted before my trip to France in June and never experienced this on new sets.

Not sure for the PR4s but the PR3s had a tendency to do this after some time as they were getting worn unevenly at the front. But never with new tyres!!

Ok, took Big Bertha back to the  :gun_bandana:dealer and whadaknow - front wheel balance weights in a different position and all seems fine including WARPSPEED.
Now to grease the primary hub splines.

Ciao

It could also be the tyre itself.  But usually that manifests on deceleration.   Hopefully it was just the balancing.

Just reading back through all these threads and catching up ... glad to see the problem was pretty simple and you are now back to warp speed .... and very smooth warp speed from what I remember !
