Hi everyone, can I ask your advice please. I ride the bike 2 up the majority of the time, in all weathers all year around with the panniers fitted. Despite having a hugger, when it rains the whole of the back of the bike and the wife on pillion gets covered in road grime. I have looked at the rear fender extenders and I'm sceptical as to their effectiveness. After doing over two hundred miles recently in the torrential rain, I have had enough and I need to address this matter. I'm probably going to make something myself, but if anyone can point me in the direction of something that will do the job I would appreciate it. TIA John
It sounds like you got caught out in the Scottish rain as did I last week, it was pretty bloody relentless!
Hi Davio, I think there is a chap on here called blue one that manufactures rear fender extenders. I think he is based in America, but has sent products to a few members on here. Get in touch with him, he may be able to help.

He is actually called Blue one, and is based in Canada, he may still be able to assist
I suggest you P.M him
Thanks for your help everyone. I searched and found the Blue One mentioned but I couldn't download the photos. I shall do as you suggest and PM him. It wasn't just the rain in Scotland, going over Shap was a tad moist. I have to say every time I ride the GTR I never fail to be impressed. Many thanks, I shall update because I think other owners would be interested. Regards, John
I sold my GTR to tartan jock of this parish and he promptly removed the rear extender I purchased from blue one, drop him a pm and see if he still wants it, as he is from north of the border he might be persuaded to part with it. 😀
I have a hugger and Blue Ones rear fender extender and when riding in heavy rain the back of my thighs get soaked, but the rear of the bike stays clean. I've been thinking of making or adapting a full rear swingarm mounted mudguard for a while.
Boomer the wife invariably keeps the rain and road crud off me :)
Hey Big Alan, thanks for that. I have sent him a PM Thanks for that :)
I'd be interested to hear how you get on.
What gets chucked up from the back does not bother me when riding solo, as you say the pillion can be affected though.
The worst of it for me is that even if there is just a bit of dampness on the roads the bike always comes home looking filthy.
Reading through this thread it again amazes me that the manufactures do not sort out these "problems" themselves .... Many a GS, as mine does, have the fender extenders front and back and the difference in the wet is truly amazing ... money well spent for a clean and relatively dry rear end
It's hard to put a price on having a relatively dry rear end.
:mfr_lol:
I've made a rear extender for my GTR1400 from an old paint roller tray. If cut correctly it has a natural lip.

Simple to make and works well.
I have a rear extender that has never been installed. I'll have to dig around to see if I can find it.
