Got my GTR yesterday. Brand new but it,s a -08 model in nautilus silver.
Starte the trip down to dealer on friday after work.Went almost half of the way down on friday, rest on saturday morning.Drow all the way back home on saturday, 597 miles or 960 km. I spendt 1440 km or 895 miles on motorbikes alltogether on saturday. My ass has lost it's shape ;D
Used little under 12 hours on the trip back home. Not so bad, with all the holliday traffic on the road these days. And since the bike aren't finished breaking in,I could not just pass the lorries and cars screaming with full trottle. The sun was shining all the way, never had a trip with weater like this the hole day.In Norway this is.
The Bike really stod out as a mile eater.Smooth and relaxing.
I'm really imressed. Stable and strong. Power every where, and it suits my length good
The only minus is, between 2000 and 3000 rpm with steady trottle,I felt the engine started to
go a little uneven. Little hard to explain. It goes a way when I shuts of the trottle or opening the trottle more
Are going get some more km or miles on the bike before I do someting about it.
Feel like the fuel management aren't spot on.
But this is fixable.
It came with the original screen, the low one.Raised it nearly full up and no wind on my upper body, just
a even steady blast at the helmet. No buffing or head sheaking.
Will get a taller original screen later, the dealer didn't get my extra stuff in time.
But they are going to send it later. And the milage aren't to bad. 453,2 km or 281,66 miles on one tank.
It's 0,47 liter/km or 48 mpg I think. i reckon it will get a little better later when i know how to ride the bike. :)
After the first km/miles i don't feel the need for more power. But a new muffler are must for me,man it's
huge!!! :o
Gonna keep you updated on the bike and how it works in a day to day use.
And all the farkles and mods that will come.I know my self, just can't leave something totaly original ;D
Hi & welcome
Epic round trip for the bike, worth it though ;D
Congratulations on the new GTR. ;D
How did you manage to get 281 miles out of a tank of fuel?
Biiiig first ride....well done on the new bike
Thanks:)Very surprised my self over the milage. But I did ride very calmly and smooth.
After the last tank filling, there where no riding on motorways just B roads.
And there was much less traffic.Easyer to get a smooth ride then.Just find a rhythm and keep the trottle steady.Think the milage will change when the bike are getting used harder.
Yes,worth every penny spendt and miles driven ;D
Are planning on going up to Nordkapp, the north cape,I think you are calling it.
Later this year.Thats is a trip i have been thinking of doing for several years, but there
have always been something that has managed to ruin it for me.
Hopefully this year I will get going
One question. Are there batteries in the tire pressure sensors in the wheels?
If there are,how often must they be replaced?
Congrats on the new bike.
Where do you live and where did you pick it up from? I think LW had a similar trip to pick his up
The TPS batteries aren't replaceable. Not officially anyhow but can be done with a little pain
Every 5 years is the official answer from Kawasaki.....each new TPS unit is £195.00 over here....think I'll learn to swap the battery out myself
Yep, mine was a 600 mile round trip to collect the GTR taking in the delightfull M25. ;D
I live in Rørvik (roervik) in Vikna out by the coast i the middle of Norway.
The dealer are in Sarpsborg in the south east of Norway near the swedish boarder.
1 hour drive down from Oslo on the east side of Oslofjorden.
There are dealers closer to home. But i got so much more money for the bike I
tradet in,that it was worth the trip.
Do not get a reading for tire pressure on the disply, just tree lines.
And since the bike is tree years it thought mayby the batteries in the TPS where dead.
Have read in the handbook and in the service manual but i can't find I'm doing
someting wrong.Forgot to check this before i left the dealer.
Have warranty so it will be covered, but if it's something easy to fix
i do it my self.
Anybody have any ideas what can be wrong?
Either the battery has gone or the tps hasn't been synced to the ecu. Either way, it needs to go to a dealer to get resolved
Aren't the TPS syncronised to the ECU from the factory?
Does the dealer have to do this when its new?
Maybe they have to "wake up" the TPS.
If the tps have to be changed i wait till my tires needs replacment.
I remember ages ago that I read if you fill them to 50 psi it can activate them. Don't know how true it is, or if you need to drive at that psi for them to be activated.
Thank F**k your not British...I was just thinking about the awe full spelling & about to have a pop...
But when realized your not English, thought , that's good English...
Hello
Hello Ziderman :)Are my english that bad? I hope it will get better after reading and posting on
the GTR forum. ;)
Are going to try out your suggestions,Norman Bates.
Did a evening ride on my local roads . Small and twisty roads, where I used to have fun
with the GSXR1000. And I'm even more impressed of the bike now. I just can't understand where
they have hidden the weight of the bike,It handles almost like a sports bike.
All ready time to change the oil and oil filter,645 miles now and more to come ;D
I'm with Ziderman on this ....... Bloody good English TRIGGERHAPPY,
Its not easy to tell who's foreign and who's not..... English is my second language (albeit I now live and work in the UK, so it's fairly polished)
Thank you :) Do read alot of english at work and private.Understand most of
it right away.
But talking and writing english are much more difficult.
So if there are something I write that is totaly wrong i hope
you will tell me ;D

Triggerhappy...i too am Norsk...so i can translate pretty much anything you need.......i live and work in the UK, so I dont use my norwegian every day, but you can always PM me if you're not sure of something either written here or something you want to write ;D
Hello Trigger and well done for buying a great bike .... I and the rst of us are sure you will love it !
Your English is very good .... send us some pictures of your lovely country .... with your Gtr in them of course !!! ;D ;D
QuoteIts not easy to tell who's foreign and who's not...
How true...LOL...
My Girl friend is originally from Hartfordshire..Been down here year & a half...her two Girls asked her the other day which country I was from , as could not possibly be English with my accent.......I do have a very heavy Somerset west country yokel Carrot crunching accent ..apparently...!
Hence the Z in Ciderman I guess. Cheeky little Crimits....(sorry another Westcountry phrase)
So you Norwegian guys going to fit in really well for sure....
Hva i helvete, er det flere Norske her enn Welshmen!
;D
a'r hyn sydd o'i le ar y gymraeg ? :P
Ja det ser ut som det er flere av oss ja ;D
Changed oil, oilfilter and oil in the final gear yesterday.Rode the bike first,
so the oil got heated up.
Did it my self, got the oil and filter with the bike from the dealer.
The "old" motor oil looked fine, but the oil in the final drive was really bad.
It was grey metalic, and very thick. Drained it and washed it out with breakcleener.
Filled in new oil.Went for a short trip, and drained the oil in the final gear
once more. The oil was pretty fine now, filled up with new oil. The new oil where much
thinner. But it's right for the bike,I did double check 8)
Maybe my head is playing games with me,but
I'm shure the engine idles smoother.
Have a tire question.
The bike is 3 years old,but never been used before.
If the bike has been standing on the sidestand for a very long time,
can the tires get a flat spot that dont go away.
Have experienced flat spots before, byt they goes away after some miles riding.
Have now ridden the bike for over 650 miles, but still i get the same feeling of flat spots
Have had the bike on the senterstand and idled bike in first gear,
you can see rear tire aren't quite round.
It's a up and down movement, not shaking as it need to be re-balanced.
The bike stod out side my jobb today, and a gentleman came in and asked who's
bike it was. Mine I proudly stated,he shook my hand and said it was the finest
motorbike he ever had seen.He was a total stranger to me.I almost thougth
he where going to give me a hug. He then went out and stod for a long
time and checked the bike from all angles.
That was really cool, saved my day ;D
You'll be doing yourself a favour by changing the tyres anyhow. After 3 years, the tyre will have flat spots. Get some PR3s on and you won't look back.
Did you get the TPS issue resolved?
Going to change the tires when they are worn out, can't afford new tires now.
Phoned the dealer earlier to day,and they should hear with Kawa tech support.
But they where quite sure i had to get new sensors.
Covered by warranty. Mentioned the flat spots, and they said it would be better after riding
more miles. Are going to try to get a good price on tires from the dealer.
Will get the tpms fixed when I'm on holiday.Maybe I'll change tires at the same time. No big deal, the bike runs nice anyway.
Think the uneven engine run, with steady trottle betwen 2000-3000 rpm. are a bigger problem.
They will check out this as well, but my holiday aren't due for late august maybe september
so that will be a long wait.

Or the "insult" to the Welsh?
I am entitled to insult them as I am ¼ Welsh (paternal Grandmother was was from Port Talbot).
While I'm at it I will also insult the Scots (I'm ¼ Scottish, maternal Grandfather) and the English (am ½ English).
I will insult the French for the hell of it and the Germans because I feel like it.
If anyone objects to that I will insult them and their mothers and their mothers sexual habits! ;-)
I am an even handed person. I will insult anyone if they ask nicely. ;D
Can you insult Bradfordians? I can join in as well then

Only I can insult Bradfordians because I live in the sh*t heap. Anyway, I'm sensing this thread has gone a little offf topic. ;D

It helps me understand my problems for sure..lol
Hi,a update on the GTR. Have mounted the GPS bracket, the original kawa top case. Did not get
the top cover of the case in the bikes color. They don't make it longer.Got it in black,so it's easy
to get it spray painted later. Talked to a car paint shop, and they could paint it. Put in the inner liners
in the panniers, they where a bit small, but better than nothing.Did not get the the taller screen,
some mix up by the dealer, phoned them to day and it will be shipped asap.
Some thoughts about the top case and the original kawa carrier plate.
It's very flimsy. Ok,the case where a cheaper solution, but the original carrier plate are the worst.
Gonna make me a new plate from aluminium. And bolt down the top case mounting plate to the new plate.
Think this will make it more sturdy.
Did a 323 miles trip yesterday. In sunny and really warm weather.Drow into some thunder and lighning
half way with a massive rainshower, but the sun came out again for the rest of the way.The low screen
worked surprisingly well. With the screen fully up and me tucked down a little bit,it keeped my torsoe and
neck dry.Just some rain from the helmet when the speed dropped.
Some of the roads I drow is really demanding for bikes.
Most of it are narrow with really bumpy tarmac and endless amont of curves.
But the GTR did the work, without any remarks.Have done this trip with all of my earlier bikes.
But no one comes even close. With the GSXR I almost lost my theeth and crushed my back.
The ST1100 where dangerous, really hard to hold the line in all the bumps and curves. Had to drive
so slow that I where overtaken by a few cars!!!
I got so tired and the pain in my hands and wrists where bad.
The GTR was totaly different, felt like it was on tracks. Rock steady, even in the most bumpy curves.
Easy to throw around the bends, never gave me a reason to hold back
And this on the original BT-021's!!! The rear preload adjusted up 6 clicks.
There where two german bikers with GS's who drowe with me on the worst part,
talked to them before we parted, and they could no understand that the GTR could keep up
with them on a road in this shape.
I'm so pleased with the bike. I's all that i thougth it would be.Just a few more farkles
and stuff...never ending list ;D
Once again my posting got long :D
Have to learn how to control my self ;D
Nothing wrong with long postings ... all good info...there is more than me and you on here that go on a bit ;D
Did mount my gps and connected it to the acc. leads under the left upper fairing.Prepared the leads to connect the heated grips
at the same time.Pretty easy job.Are not quite happy with the posision of the gps,it's to low.Have to try and find ia better place for it. Tried to fix the rattle in the dashboard, but no luck. Will try again later.Have to remove the fairings to get to the header nuts, think they are a bit lose.Hear a blowing/whistling sound from that area. And having a issue with the idle and driving on mid trottle it's a job worth checking out.
Fidded also the original tank protector set.And fiddled with the suspention set up. Two clicks clockwise on the rebound damping on the front and six clicks back from full on the rear preload. Have not got time to try it out on my fav roads. Hope I can get so time tomorrow.
Ordered heated grips and a givi tankbag, will get this with the taller screen.
Bought the GIVI T489 with tanklock system, knowing there will be some fitting trouble. But I removed the two screws that holds the glovebox
and I got to move it forward a bit, enough to fit the tankbag system I thinh.Just have to file the two holes in the glovebox.Time will show.
If it don't fit,a friend of mine wil buy it.
Don't know where to put the control for the heated grips yet,no clue how big it is. Bought the stuff from the dealer who sold me the GTR.
Going to try to take some pictures during the mod. prosess. If I remember, getting old you know. 8)
Have rolled 1300 miles now and it just are getting better and better. There is only three weeks to my holiday. :D
Planning a long trip in Norway.14 days, just me the road and the bike. ;D
Are going to take the 4000 miles service during the trip at my dealer.Thats the only thing for shure.
The rest of the trip will be heads and tails. Heads, left.Tails right;D
And to Norman Bates: Really like the new design on the GTR forum. :)
Keep up the good work :D
Did some more mods on the GTR yesterday and today. Fittet kawa tall screen, heated grips, givi t489 tanklock tankbag and made a new plate on the luggage rack. The tankbag was not easy to fit,but moving the glovebox a little forward and raising the givi fastening ring did the works.
Are not 100% finished with this yet,but I can use the tankbag. Bought me a camera today so pictures will come.
Got the heated grips from the dealer who sold me the bike,it's a original yamaha kit. One button, three leds and six different temperatures.
The controller where quite small,And easy to mount.Did a test drive with out gloves, way to hot on max. Think it will be great with gloves and a bit colder outside.
If the rain stops I will go for a trip tomorrow, maybe over the border to sweden. Long trip to test the screen, and having some quality time on a sunday :D
I know this ain't a tyre tread, but I've got a good deal on dunlop roadsmart. Any one tried this?
Did also find the cause for the anoyng rattle sound from the dash area.It was the black plasic cover over the windscreen mecanism.
It vibrated against the fairing, put on dual bonding tape and the rattle was gone :D
