Title: Healtech Quickshifter fitted tonight.
Post by: Robbieben on February 14, 2019, 10:06:08 PM
Having owned a few bikes with a quickshifter I thought I'd give the Healtech Quickshifter a try on the GTR. When riding quite spiritedly the wife would occasionally nut the back of my helmet with hers, likely because she was looking at the scenery or dozing off. She didn't do this on bikes I've had with a quickshifter so took the plunge. I already had it from a previous bike so fitted it to the GTR  :smartass: after checking that it would fit.

 Have to say it gives a great smooth change of gear as you power up through the gears on full throttle, no hesitation etc. Just blindingly quick and smooth full throttle shifts. I'll fine tune things as the weather improves but on a quick test ride tonight it works really well.

I've set it up so that below 3000 RPM it does not activate to allow for lazy in traffic shifting in the normal way. Once on the open road it comes into its own. I've initially set it up with an 80 ms ignition cut to unload the gearbox but will fine tune the cut period as I get a better feel for it out on a decent ride.

The unit has great functions all controlled through bluetooth through the downloadable smart phone app.

I have a quick shifter fitted to mine, I wasn't sure initially whether it was just a gimmick but in hindsight I'm glad I had it fitted.

Its a Healtech unit, they are around £240.00 on fleabay. Relatively easy to fit yourself if you understand what your doing. Fairings need to come off for access and then follow the instructions supplied with the kit.

Likewise. After a couple of days I began to wonder how I ever lived without one in the past. I'm a convert  :cheesy:

Cheers

I have never had a quick shifter on any bike, howver my new Versys has this feature as standard  so it will be an education for me to use one

I had one fitted to my 14 plate GSA and then it came as standard on the 68 plate GSA Rallye. The K16 comes with one also. Works up and down the gearbox and the sound / blip as you change down is beautiful. Silky smooth on the K16.

I briefly had a quick shifter on a GSXR1000 a few years back but not for long enough to remember (was a cheap piece of junk that was installed really badly so removed it shortly after purchase). I know they are awesome on WOT pull aways but how usable are they for normal everyday riding (traffic, Suburbs etc)?

If the quick shifter you have fitted, whether OEM or aftermarket is fitted correctly, it will in my opinion be an assett regardless or where you are riding. It's a seamless process which just works. I was apprehensive the first time I ever used mine but I needn't have been. I was only apprehensive as it seemed alien to me to attempt to change gear without using the clutch as that's what the clutch was for, but the quick shifter is quicker, quieter and smoother.

Can I use any QS from any motorcycle model / brand or just a dedicated one?

So in normal everyday riding, steady pull away shifting at 3 to 4k rpm, it will shift normally/easily still?

It does on the BMW's. It's a lot of money for what it does so if you have any doubts, save your money and use it for something more practical.

:agree:   Mine is fitted to the bike as standard.... I like it.....I wouldn't pay extra to have it fitted retrospectively
