Title: Waterproof boots
Post by: shaggs147 on January 29, 2019, 07:24:23 AM
Hi all,
The soles of my boots are wearing a bit thin now, so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for waterproof boots that won't cost the earth?
My current boots are made by Spada (ST1 i think) and to be fair have never leaked, kept my feet warm, are comfortable and feel like they give reasonable protection. I was thinking of getting some Sidi black rain, but was a bit wary that they had no sliders on the side - don't get me wrong, i am no knee down rider, but on every boot i have had the sliders do seem to get roughed up somehow. Having the slider i feel will help protect the boot. I may go for another Spada, but open to suggestions, thanks.

I've twice bought Black Rain boots and found them very good on both occasions.

Currently I'm using TCX boots, simply because they are not quite so high and with the Black Rain, it was all too easy for the top of the boot to catch the choke lever on my old Honda CB500/4, leaving me to wonder why it was losing power!

I got soem Richa Blade boots last year.  Rode through a day of storms in N Ireland and the roads were awash.  I was the only one with dry socks!  Very comfortable as well.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll have a look at them on line and have a think, but some good suggestions there. Budget is open really, but as I'm not doing so much touring at the moment so i guess the sensible option would be mid range 150 ish as I don't use the bike for commuting etc.

I use the Alpinestars Goretex touring boots. Great all round boot, totally waterproof and comfortable in the summer too. I paid £155.00 for my boots 2 years ago in the sale.

My last Sidi boots lasted an incredible 18 years (about 60,000 miles) with one resole at £30  although I very rarely ride in the rain. I bought RST Paragon 2 boots last autumn but have only done a few hunderd miles on them. They were half the price of the Sidi at £99 ( local Infinity store agreed to price match to that). Feet stayed dry on the two wet  days I've used them.

I have had a pair of Altberg boots for around 12 years and never had a problem with them and they are still going strong.

I'll second that. Mine have been scraped down the road after a front wheel lockup on my GTR1000 and are still waterproof. Also available up to size 50EU/15UK for us bigfoots :taz:  :punk:

I've also been using TCX for the last few years.

I think most clothing I have worn over the years have leaked after a full days riding in the rain, but I can't remember the boots ever letting me down.

I'd also add that real leather boots well protected with a few good coats of Dubbin makes a hell of a difference. Before Goretex and still today I always Dubbin my bike and walking boots

Some good boots to choose from there. I was in the middle of choosing between 3 of them when sportsbikeshop put a spanner in the works with a deal on Richa rain tech boots for 90 quid. The reviews seemed good so i got a pair of those. First ride out of the year last weekend, 560 mile round trip. Boots felt comfy but not rain tested yet. They look well made for the money. Thanks for all the input.
