Title: engine oil top up
Post by: tapps on September 30, 2018, 09:13:39 PM
i have never topped up the engine oil from day one between services on my 12 plate gtr1400,i've had to add 3/4 of a litre to put it near the top mark on the inspection window, it is due a service in 600 mile's.i've looked for possible oil leak's, none found.it's covered 27K mile's in all.

Chances are you just overfilled the oil.
You need to put the bike on the centrestand on a flat surface , then run the motor for a few minutes.
Then let it sit for 30 mins before checking the oil level.
The level can change if you go from sidestand to centrestand after stopping the engine.
At 27k miles it won't be burning oil, so unless you have a leak your level shouldn't change.

If you have a syringe, take some out.

i ended up draining out more a less what i added, the GROUND where i topped it up, unknown to me is NOT level.i parked it up in two places at home,1 was reading over the top line on the window, the other was reading just above to bottom line, hence the topping up.i will probably get an oil change done A.S.A.P. & put in the required amount.
