I have a problem with the neutral light on my 09 GTR, the switch looks like it needs a clean or replacement however where is it? I have checked the manual but find no mention of a neutral switch / sensor,
Rob
The 1400 has a Gear Position Switch. It is located on the left side, right at the rear of the gearbox.
Page 16-104 in the Service Manual.
Check the dash display.
If it is showing N but the green light is not lit, then it's more likely a problem with the bulb or wiring for the light.
Thanks Boomer, The light works and it comes on occasionally but can be very difficult to find and has now started to not show even when in neutral.
Ill get back to you once I have stripped the switch and cleaned it. Hopefully that's the issue?
Rob
Sorted thanks.
As with any old bike mine has seen some miles, 30+ thousand and the neutral light was harder to find than a pothole free road
I had a time and a half removing the gear position sensor, two screws holding it in place were seized, the use of a impact driver got them out eventually and the switch removed. Now the switch was ok other than needing a clean, there are two sprung loaded contacts within the gearbox and the centre one was in great condition the one that comes in contact with the outer ring was worn badly, I soldered a spot on that and swapped it for the middle contact and sorted. I have got a positive neutral light that selects every time. I used new stainless steel allen bolts instead of the screws.
Thanks for the assistance guys
Cool
Was the bike parked outdoors for a long time?
Mine has 73k miles and no problems with the switch,... yet :mfr_lol:
parked outside for a year whilst its new garage was built. But all ok now.
I must do a lot of gear changes lol these twisty roads up here lol
Thanks again for your help! My manual is on my phone until I upgrade my laptop so hard to read at times. cheers again
rob
Difficult to read on a phone.
I have mine on my phone, tablet, PC, garage PC, and my work laptop.
Just in case none of those are available I also have it on my Dropbox. :mfr_lol:
