Title: The 2500 mile report
Post by: 100milesaway on July 11, 2011, 09:36:35 PM
2500 miles report on my new 011 Green GTR. Well straight off after 43 years and at the last count 31 bikes I have found the one that I really love, and I mean really love. The GTR is the biggest, heaviest, most powerfull bike I have ever owned, and I have owned lots of big heavy bikes, but never one that carries its weight like the GTR does, I still cant believe how well the bike steers, and how quickly it turns for such a heavy bike, comfort wise It is in a class apart, and whilst this is the first true touring bike that I have owned there have been plenty more that were supposed to be comfy, but were just agony after a couple of hundred miles, this bike is just as cosy as I percieve riding a motorbike can be, my first few rides out were surreal as I have never been so cosseted, with no wind or rain battering into my ageing old body(63) a lovely experience, and seeing as it never stopped raining for the first six weeks from me collecting the bike I was learning to appreciate this bike like no other. Engine wise we all know that they are bomb proof, and if you keep throwing oil and filters at them that they will go forever, and boy do these things GO I really cant imagine anyone wanting any more grunt than this bike has, and yet my bike always returns 50 mpg which I find amazing and can only conclude that the aerodynamics of the bike are spot on.Tyres wise this bike has already exeeded what my 1250 Bandit achieved on its original rubber and I expect them to last maybe 5 or 6 thousand miles. On to the suspension I have fiddled a plenty and feel as if I have now got the rear as I like it but am still playing with the front and I must say I find it a bit "Bobbly" over the A and B roads up here in the dales, but I am sure that with more tuning I will achieve a result. So to sum up, after making the decision to buy a GTR the whole experience, from doing a deal at Motorcycle centre Orrell, the presentation of the bike on delivery, the way we were dealt with at the first service, no issues at all with the bike which is comfy, quick, economical, smooth and a lovely thing to ride and gives me deep joy to own. ;D

And I think initially you had reservations about getting the GTR,  ;D

I haven't had anything like as many bikes as you have had, but like you I have to concede that the GTR is the best I have ever owned.

Yes mr Wolf I did initially have reservations, but only because of the size and weight of the bike , but a chap who lives near us who has a GTR ( dont think he comes on here) put my mind at rest as he does his biking pretty much as we do ours ie lots of A and B roads and lots of twisties, so after I had been reassured that kind of use was well within the bikes remit, it was just a case of used or new and of course we ended up going new.         Update on the baglux tank harness situation is we decided we didn't like the way the harness fitted to the bike so we have gone out and bought a magnetic bag, and very nice it looks too.  cheers Geoff ;D

Just covered 3200 on my '11 GTR and I have only praise too, now scren is sorted, apart from the tyres which I can't wait to replace! Just have to put more miles on them ;D

Much smoother than the K1200BMW I ran a few years ago and both my pillions love it (not at the same time of course :D).

I had my reservations too, even after I had bought it, but the more I ride it the more I love it, and the less I worry about what else I could have bought.

Nearly 40000 miles and still loving it

Last week I had the 'pleasure' of riding my friends Pan European ST1100. Talk about driving a tractor. Heavy and cumbersome are the two words that come to mind.
