What do you have, how much and who with, all info appreciated
Hi O.C, don't have any at the moment but can't praise the RAC cover highly enough. They paid for hotels, transport and ferries etc when I unfortunately broke down in France a few years ago. No negotiation or questions, they just sorted everything.

Thanks shaggs, that's the kind of recommendation I like to hear... I had wondered about RAC and will now check them out, the last time I took out Euro cover was in 2012
Thanks again
If you are going via the tunnel ring Eurotunnel for a quote. They were very good for us last year for travel insurance and breakdown cover in 1 policy. Don't forget to ask for repatriation of sick person and or bike to UK.

Cheers Chris, actually we are on the overnight Brittany ferry from Cork. thanks for the heads up
I have now sorted cover with the RAC it seems to be as good, if not better, than the rest
AA or RAC are good fror breakdown cover, but neither Co's will respond to accidents. Other companies do cover both breakdown and accidents
Repatriation of you and your bike are the main things . Breakdown cover is not for recovering a bike that's had an accident . Travel medical insurance needs to be bike specific , most cheap providers don't cover high risk activities
Mine's wrapped in with a multi-bike policy from Carole Nash so I don't really know the specific cost of the cover - it may be worth checking you bike policy to see if anything is included already. As to how good it is is also uncertain, you never know what support you are going to get until you need it and I have never had to call on it so far. Perhaps the "best policy" is to get a local garage to do a quick check over the bike before you set off; this is something I usually do when I can get myself organised - mind you, it does help that I have a sister working at a franchised dealership!
Also worth checking your bank account package if you pay a monthly fee, this often includes travel insurance (but look out for any exclusion of motorcycling).
Enjoy your excursion to Forn Parts.
Pete.
Great advice thank you , by happy coincidence my bike has just been serviced so I asked for a thorough check over too
Thanks all for your help
check age of vehicle restrictions on policies for eu use
Roger .. buy a GS and get 2 years for free !
PS ... You are right to ask though. For a few quid on top of any standard policy one could upgrade to top notch service, which is all I would want if stranded out in Europe. Imagine being told it can be repaired but they won't take it from the dealer to your hotel, or you have to pay for some of the bits etc... you know what I mean ... spend a little more and go safely knowing all will be well !
Let us know what you decide

I owned one in 2010 Nigel..... it didn't light my candle frankly
I'm aware that the latest water jacket models are much better, as I have a pal who is on his third and his latest has all the gizmo's and extras, but he has experienced quite a few recalls and failures over the last 10 years of GS ownership, whereas I have never been let down by any Kawasaki that I have owned.
I have organised RAC cover now
It is the BMW brand that sells them definitely not the quality. There is a misplaced belief that they are better quality than other manufacturers. Unfortunately many owners find this not to be the case. And of course if bought on a PCP they find they are stuck.
I hear where you are coming from Roger
Glad you got your cover sorted.
