Title: Engine coolant recommendations
Post by: Paddymonster on July 25, 2018, 01:49:23 PM
Hi all

I need to do a coolant change in my gtr1400 2009 model and  am looking for coolant recommendations. I have used engine ice in my fireblade and that does the job but did not seem to provide a temperature as low as the previous coolant. I have seen some threads on de-ionised water mixes vs other based coolants. What is best to get?

I'd suggest ready mixed with de ionised water unless you have easy access to both parts. Renault sell a ready mixed product that meets and exceeds our needs for the GTR, freeze protection to -25 or so, has inhibitors and lubricants all within the solution. Not a bad price if you barter with your local renault parts advisor, I paid around £1.12 a litre last time I bought some.

Thanks Robbie. Anything specific I need to ask for when I go in to Renault or is it their bog standard coolant?

Ask for their ready mixed coolant, there are other places you can get it from, depends if you have a decent motor factors near you.

I've used the Honda coolant in all of my Kawasakis without ill effects.  It's pre-mixed already.

I have used Toyota coolant that is ready mixed and good for 60k miles. I have used it in both cars and bikes with no problems. Expensive but worth it.
