Title: French speed limit changes as of 1st july 2018
Post by: Nitty Gritty on July 10, 2018, 02:47:48 PM
For those entering France this year and for the next two years, during the trial.
All A and b roads (department roads) without a central reservation have had their maximum speed limits reduced from 90kmph to 80Kmph.
It is still the case that anyone caught exceeding the speed limit by 40Kmph can have their licence confiscated.
Vehicles without the new emmisions stickers can be fined up to euro117, not all areas are effected, so if your not visiting one of those participating cities you might not need one. Information is available from the RAC or AA websites or direct from "Certificats qualité de l'air" website.
I usually use the "D" roads to get about in France, I find them interesting and empty, my own personnel play pen.
Unfortunately since May last year DVLA now give your details to foregn countries seeking fines for speeding and other motoring offences.
As I found out last summer when a euro 108 fine followed me back to UK from Austria.

All the more reasons for staying in the 🇬🇧

You won't find many more beautiful and scenic routes than up in Scotland and if you stick to the West coast you won't even encounter a speed camera. It's a win, win situation.

Speed limits are clearly marked whether on Autoroutes (if you need to get some where quick you cant beat the 130kmh limits on the ones that support it), it can be painful going through small villages, mostly 50kmh but often in the slightly larger ones or with schools near by it drops to 30k.

The roads in France were superb,  not seen anything like it in the UK, standard of driving was excellent too, couldn't believe that they all just pulled back in after over taking.  On the 192mile run to our holiday location from Dieppe every single person pulled in after over taking without exception, likewise on the way back too.  I also never felt the need to boot it either, it was all quite relaxing.

When we arrived back in the UK, for the 25min drive home to Worthing, I musta have sworn 5-6 times in my lid due to  :censored: driving.

Went to Brugges via Calais on Saturday for a beer or two with another couple on an RS1200. Tom Tom has updated itself to new limits and as said before changes are well publicised.
