Title: New member huddersfield -looking for advice /bike
Post by: natcar on July 01, 2018, 11:12:20 PM
Looking for a new bike commuter 30-60 motorway miles with some longer trips- trying to justify the price over an old honda but got a 4-5k budget. Any pitfalls/unusual servicing requirements. How does it compare to the blackbird.

It's even better.

Is your budget of 4-5K in addition to a part exchange price ?

Been to look at one today decided I would rather be cold and wet and be able to filter than get stuck with the cars hadn't remembered how wide they are- nice bike I am sure - theres plenty on around 5k I was looking for older used bikes.

You can filter perfectly well on a GTR even with the panniers on. The widest part of the bike is actually the mirrors, if they fit, everything else will naturally follow.

I've got both, GTR and Blackbird.  'Bird is easier for filtering, as it's a little more nimble.  GTR better for motorway miles.

Filtered into London for 3 years and round the M25 for 7 years on mine.
The bike filters fine with only an occasional mirror knock when dozy car/van drivers weave about.
Just push the mirror back into position and keep going.
The only thing I found irritating was the throttle snatch.
Fixed that with a Shoodabeen Decel Flash.

How did your search go? I am relocating to Thailand and my 2009, just reached 20k miles might be up for sale to an interested party.
In fact I will post it after talking to admin.
Pm me if you like. Phil

Huddersfield? That's my neck of the woods! Whereabouts in Huddersfield?

I used to commute on my GTR for years. I averaged about 90 miles a day. No issues filtering etc.

It's brilliant for commuting, especially on motorway. I service my bike by myself about every 8k miles.
