Title: New to Kawasaki
Post by: MAG man on June 26, 2018, 03:59:47 AM
Just bought a 2015 GTR.  First impressions - superb bike.  I test rode a new one about 6 years ago at a local dealers open day and loved it then.  I've been riding Blackbirds (3) for the past 16 years and 50,000+ miles. Also have two GS 1200's - but my wife thinks they're hers! Although my current Blackbird is 2008 it's the last of the line and I fancied a change.  Hence my switch to the GTR.  Time will tell if it's the right decision, but it all looks good so far.  Trouble is I can't, don't want to find a reason to get shot of the Blackbird as it's been such a great bike.

Hello MAG man, welcome. In my humble opinion you'll soon forget all about the bird; the GTR is an awesome bike. Enjoy  :biker3:

Just can,t seem to get on with it ,the major thing that i,ve banged on about is the low down power i really think its rubbish for a 1400 cc modern bike ,it rides well for a big bike handles well to a point ,might go for the remap and see if its any better but if theres not a big improvement think it will have to go ,first service saturday then pop over to have a chat with the guys at hilltop bikes and go from there

This is an observation that has been made by others in the past.

It's important to remember that the GTR is basically a 5 speed bike with an overdrive (6 gears in total) and needs to be ridden accordingly

Don't get me wrong, I'm not teaching my grandma to suck eggs, .....  if the GTR isn't what you want or expected then maybe it just isn't the bike for you

Lloyd I'd try removing the secondary flies, makes a tremendous difference to the low down grunt the bike has. I've owned a Blackbird, Hayabusa, ZZR1200 and a 2012 ZZR1400 and for a touring bike the GTR holds its own pretty well with some minor modification. It is not a Sport bike, it is a tourer but a bloody fast one in the right hands.

I've removed secondary flies, fitted a quickshifter, sorted the suspension and it really is a great touring bike that can easily keep with more sport orientated bikes.

I guess it just depends how you ride, what you've ridden before and what you expect it to do. I think that although it doesn't do anything perfectly it covers most things very well. I like to have a little blast around and then watch the world waft on by, taking in the scenery. I went to Sorrento on mine a couple of years ago and loved every minute. Yes a couple of times I hit the motorway to scrub some miles off, but the rest was taken at a reasonable pace to take in everything that was on offer. It's fast enough for my needs. Maybe a few tweeks and a remap will get yours just how you like it.

Lloyd, just get a remap. I'd say go for the Shoodaben Mountain Runner, but any decent remapped should do. No need to take the secondaries out, it'll transform the bike.

Hi guys, thanks for the welcome.  Loving this weather.  The only problem I've discovered so far is that with the size of the bikes frontage it collects more bug splats!
