Good afternoon guys, Its MOT time for me and I have just fully serviced the bike, Oil, Filter , Cleaned and re-oil K&N, New Plugs and checked clearances of the shims. I have rode about 1000 miles since and now the MOT is due this week the ABS has started to play up.
I start the bike and set off, the ABS light goes out like it should, then some 100 meters after I set off it lights back up and I have no ABS. I thought it may be a sensor so I have had both sensors out and tested them with a multi-meter and both seem ok. I thought it may be brake fluid so changed the fluid out and still having an issue with the ABS light and I can confirm I have no ABS when the light it lit. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

There is a simple procedure detailed in the factory service manual (FSM) to retrieve faults codes. Is your bike series 1(non linked brakes) or 2(K-ACT)? You obviously have the FSM from the above list of work.
Series 1 I see. The issue with old fluid is stuck solenoid valves, with no warning light plus brake failure - on the rear. No-one has lived to report front failure apparently.
Has any work been done around the wheels? Doesn't matter - retrieve the ABS fault code and you know the cause of the problem.
Thanks , cleared the code took it for a ride and code back. 5 3 which indicated voltage is over . Checked the rectifier and that's sound . Working through the check list on the fault code over the next few days . Thanks for the reply .

Interesting. Ride it for a while with the voltage on display and watch what is does. The ABS light will only come on for active faults (but the fault code will be stored) so if the hi voltage is not present the light will not show unless it happens again or has another fault.
I believe I had the ABS fail on the rear yesterday (2008 model). Rear brake was completely gone. Pulled over, turned bike off and back on, and it kicked back in. Slowly continued for the last mile or so home.
Glad I found this, will investigate fault code etc. this evening.
Halfpipe, when you say 'rear brake was completely gone' what exactly did the pedal do: A; become rock solid with no braking force at all: or B; go all the way down with no braking effort?
Is you bike series 1 or 2? A fault code will only be stored if the ABS light stays on or comes on for some period while riding (other than the initial start-up ride). Did the ABS light stay on or come on while riding?
The brake pedal went all the way down with no effort. It's a series 1, and ABS light did not come on whilst riding.
Righto - that's not what usually happens with the 1400GTR series 1 ABS failure, the pedal goes rock-solid with no brake effort at all.
What does the pedal do since then, assuming you've check for anything obvious?
Ok followed the manual and could not find anything out of place. All tests were as they should be. Checked the voltage again and I have 18v at the battery this time when running!! the dash says 16v.
Unplugged the regulator started the bike and it runs with bike battery only. No faults with ABS no lights and the abs light disappears after you get started. Plug the regulator/rectifier back and I am showing 16v at the battery. Turn it off and start again and I now have 18v again. So its an intermittent fault with the regulator/rectifier. New one to be purchaced.
Thanks for the guidance guys.

Good work bobby.
