Post by: Paul3068 on November 19, 2017, 07:38:33 PM
Hi guys just wondered if any of you have any issues with tomtom connections to your intercom? With mine I have a pillion and connected to traffic, phone and intercom and it seems to be connecting, disconnecting connecting.really pishing me off,I'm not new to intercoms and I've heard a few bad reports about tomtom 400
Really considering moving to Zumo 595 now as I've had enough, any words of w8sdom or experience with these comms?
Regards

I bought a Tom Tom 450 after years of happy Garmin use, had no end of trouble with connecting to and using the Tom Tom to control things, got cheesed off after 4 weeks of trying and sent Tom Tom back for a refund, bought a new Garmin 595LM, brilliant, works perfectly.

I bought a Tomtom 400 Rider and its the biggest bag of shite I've ever encountered.  Don't know about bluetooth connecting as I've never tried it it, but as a satnav its crap.  It has a mind of its own, its inconsistant with the same route,  changes them part way through, turns on and off at will despite being fully charged or on a mains feed. It'll go from portrait to landscape for fun, completely ignores settings (avoid motorways / quickest route etc) and cannot differentiate between A roads, B roads, greenlanes and bridle paths.

Blimey and I thought my Garmin 590LM could be 'fickle' at times

I had a TT Rider in 2008 and it was ok

The only problem I've had with the TT400 is the one where it randomly switches  landscape to portrait..

Actually it's not that random, more usually occurred when making rapid direction changes. I Just went into the settings and disabled autorotation :)

Can't comment on the BT headset as I don't use that.

Never had a problem with it turning on/off randomly either.

Yes I agree it does select different routes but that's probably because I have it linked to my phone for the traffic updates, it's doing what it's designed to do and picking the best route for when you use it.

Another feature I really like is being able to log in to mytomtom to plan a route/add favourites etc on my laptop and when I turn on the sat nav there it is. No need for messing around with cables etc.

I like the idea of it updating maps etc without connecting to the pc

Doesnt update the maps without connecting (although the one I bought for my GF does as it has built in wifi & sim card for the traffic data so doesnt need PC or phone connection).

What I'm referring to is the ability to plan routes or add/remove favourites at https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_gb/ which then synch back to your TomTom (providing you have your phone hooked up to it )

I use 'Tyre ToTravel (6.5)' which is compatable to both Gramin and TomTom for route planning /rides etc.  This will then let you to download straight to the satnav and I suspect because its not allowing TomTom tomake it's own decisions, it works very well.
