Title: Potential newbie
Post by: big mike on October 31, 2017, 07:32:34 PM
I'm looking for a tourer to replace my tiger 1050 and really fancied the GTR,
Due to buying a new Harley earlier this year my budget is limited so looking at an older higher mile bike,
What's your views on an early model , it's a 57 plate with 23k on it,
Bike has had 1 owner who bought it in Dubai new and personally imported it, its had headlight and clocks done with history to back the mileage.
It's a standard bike with side cases no top box and decent condition and up at a local dealers for £5499,
Appreciate any feedback
Mike

Low miles makes it an attractive bike, bulletproof engines. If it's a good clean bike I'd say go for it. Have a read on here about the failings the bike can have if neglected, there's loads of info to digest and all very informative.

Had a 57 plate bike myself and a good introduction to the mighty mothership.  I much prefer the 2010 onwards bike though.  Reckon the one you are looking at is about £500 too much.  'tis 10 years old...

The big service, with valve clearance inspection will be due at 26,000 miles. Could be a good bargaining point on either a price reduction, or the dealer doing it at the next service at a reduced price.

Great bike i feel it is a little too high price obvious issues makes sure FSH and all recalls have been done. make sure it is to uk spec including the engine output as the French market ones were limited to 100 BHP. The gen 1 bikes did have heat issues coming through the fairing fins and slightly lower mirrors, i would go for the Gen 2 bike 2010 on, look around there will be a Gen 2 crop up sometime at an attractive price.
