Long story but very interesting and may be useful to you in future........
Current policy with Bennetts at £120 expires 16/11/2017.
Rang Bennetts today for a renewal figure and was quoted £197.
Renewal reminder sent to me a couple of days ago by email from Go Compare comparison site, quoting me £97 to renew, assuming no changes to personal or bike details.
The man at Bennetts said this is not unusual and went on to explain why. Several reasons but the biggest issue is that my next door neighbour with the same postcode as me, had his bike nicked from his garage last year. Not fair but true and real and put my address/postcode into a high risk category.
More importantly the man from Bennetts said if I can provide the GO Compare reference number, he would honour the price quoted of £97, if the quote had not expired, but to be 100% certain of being able to match the £97 figure he would prefer payment today and then the contract would go ahead immediately with a start date the same as the end date of my current policy. He went on to talk and listen and explain several things and in doing so reduced my excess by £100.
Take on board and make what you like of this, by my view is, listen and talk to the insurance company/broker and use his knowledge and experience. Be nice and polite rather than assume they are all bad and you might just be pleasantly surprised as I am.
Thank you Mark from Bennetts, not looking forward to next years renewal though.
I hear you. Regrettably we see this year in year out, regardless of whether it's a bike or a car.
I think it's fair to say that the insurance companies are happy to take a short term hit in exchange for your business as they understandably don't want you to go to a rival insurance provider.
As long as you can make it work for you it's a win win situation.
a couple of years back I received renewal quote for my Blackbird from Bennetts for £10,000, yes that is the right number of zeroes!!
Phoned them up to check as to me it smacked of a computer error being an exact figure like that and given there had been no changes in circumstances.
The young lady I spoke too was very friendly & polite and said she would rerun it after confirming all my details.
" Yes Sir there has been an error"
oh good I thought,
"it's coming out at £9200 so thats £800 lower, would you like to pay monthly or in one payment?"
For some reason she just could not understand why I opted not to take them up on the quote and despite her manager also checking they could not explain why it was coming up with a figure that was so completely ludicrous.
Went elsewhere with the same details and got it for around £160 IIRC
The days of Insurance company/client loyalty are long gone
It pays to shop around

:agree: Oh, the tales I could tell of
being ripped off by dealing with Virgin Media over the years. New customers were getting the same package I'm on for about 50% less. I now have a special "loyalty discount" but that was after brinkmanship with their "disconnections dept". And I've had to play that game about 5 years in a row now.
Cheers

Me too but the package I have is still £65 a month for Virgin, 2 boxes, internet, Eurosport and landline.

That should be your temporary policy, what we used to call a cover note. Full policy docs should follow with 12 month cover details. Mine was exactly like that.

As you say I will wait and see what's emailed after the 20th
So as detailed elsewhere here I ended up with a 2017 bike, I also have a Suzuki SV 1000n, a guzzi 1100 sport and a Honda 125 scooter for getting round locally. The bike was delivered on Saturday and on the next Thursday while stationary in a filling station near Whitby a truck hit us. Carol Nash legal immediately held their hands up and long story short told me they were doing me a huge favour by getting 50% of my excess back. I've complained both to legal and CN themselves. Got no where. So lessons learnt. Don't let you insurer persue your claim. Use a stand alone company. Fully comp is a joke, everyone but me has done very nicely thank you out of this. I pushed the approved repairer I used, who to be fair were helpful but they fitted parts there was nothing wrong with. The new bike added to the policy cost put the years premium up to £1k (55yo full NCB, clean licence, been riding forever). Christ knows what they'll want next year but I'll never do fully comp again and I'll get a little separate legal cover policy.
Never found that Carol Nash was competitive for me. As regards legal insurance - its a waste of money. If you have a =genuine case, then get on to someone like White Dalton. They really know their stuff. They are currently about to close out a claim for my nipper in excess of 6 figures

Ambulance chasers will only take certain cases, ones involving ship loads of cash for them. A legal cover policy is a very small price to pay.

Old thread I know but with Insurance, always shop around, even if you think the deal is ok.
I always recall an old quote from MCN compare or something like that. The tweak the numbers and refresh.
Tweak the miles
Tweak the Excess
Tweak the security
Tweak the usage
Clearly don't lie, but try to get as much as you can for no extra costs, sometimes insurers just want the business.
Previously, swapping from SD&P to Cat 1 business use, 25k a year, parked out on the street with no security didnt make a blind bit of difference, but the renewal the following year came in at something stupid like £750 compared to £120 the previous year. Odd that, since it was on auto renewal, that soon got changed.
My latest was a coupla months back, I ended up going back to MCE, despite having a recognised tracker and a ton of other stuff, removing the factory fitted immobiliser to select the tracker drove the cost up £50.
So now, the ground anchor, tracker, CCTV in the garage, CCTV on the property, disc locks, garage alarm, great big Audi parked in front of the garage door 99% of the time is not disclosed and its saved me money...ridiculous I know, but there is clearly some algorithms that are too stupid to be there.
Caveat Emptor.
