Title: Replace or re spray pannier
Post by: Kylinski on October 23, 2017, 06:28:18 PM
Hi all

My bike went over on the left hand side, taking the paint of the fins (they're now black) and putting a deep scratch into the plastic protector film.

Also a few scratches underneath mirror that I'm not too bothered about.

Replace pannier or re spray? (Moon dust silver)

Get a quote from a body shop unless your diy.Should match up ok being as its not  panel to panel .Rs paint are a good source for paint.Think its a 3 stage .Base coat- Colour then laquer.

Thanks for replies. Kawasaki dealer hasn't got back to me regarding price for new pannier though I'm expecting mega bucks.

I'll look into getting a re spray over the winter period.

The damage would have been worse but for my camera mount on lower fairing which took the fall. Camera and mount were un damaged

It is 2016 bike. As it's only the fins that are marked, I might just have a go at this myself. Mask off everywhere else. Not sure whether to try the touch up bottles first.

Thanks for the link, much appreciated

If its only the fins why not do them in an accent colour using plastidip?

I have no idea what plastidip is and I would have to do both panniers

You could take both lids and have them dipped or skinned in whatever colour or style you fancy.

Its a plastic paint that simply peels off if you dont like it

Once again cheers for replies. Some options I wouldn't have thought of.

I've seen some used pannier lids on e bay for £119, but I'm going to try to plastidip spray the fins black first, see how that looks.

I don't think trying to spray the fins in the original colour, unless done professionally, will look good.

I do like the pin striping too, might look into doing my fins in black.

send a PM to nrichard.  He has a 2016 in grey and had an off this year going up Porlock hill.  He had a reapir and match up done by a firm near southampton.  Involved filling, shaping and 4 different colours in the respray.  An excellent job, but I can't remember who did it for him.  I believe the price was very reasonable and it was done all in situ!

Yes always stop to pay our respects, some very touching words written to lost loved ones, puts everything into perspective.

An update on this.

I decided on buying a replacement lid off the bay of e. It's actually brand new unmarked, bought for £112 with free postage

I just need to rivet it to the hinges of the pannier. Job done

I still have a brand new L/H mirror assembly for sale at half price if you are interested but you will need to use your original coloured panel to finish the installation.

I've sorted this now. Ended up using small bolts to fix the pannier lid to the hinges of the pannier.

Saved me the cost of buying a rivet gun

Nice n new once more
