Title: Credit card fraud
Post by: ChrisB on October 14, 2017, 11:14:29 PM
Having worked in financial services compliance for over 20 years, I consider myself quite savvy regarding credit cards and security etc. However Someone has attempted to charge 3 sales to my credit card recently.  £550 at Harrods, £650 at Selfridges and £550 at AO.com.
Thanks to my bank's security systems, 2 of these were blocked and my card frozen. However the AO transaction went through, possibly because of AO's lesser security, but I spotted it in my statement. Point is, CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS line by line, item by item and report anything you are not 100% sure about. Santander have been very good but not perfect. Take heed folks.

Do you report these matters to Action Fraud or do you deal with them in house?

My thoughts are that Action Fraud are not really interested and pass details onto the credit card company concerned for them to deal with in house. Failure to report to your own card company will not get your money back. However I not an expert in credit card systems.

The only credit card fraud I experienced, ironically, were charges against my card done in the UK.  I was in the US at the time.   The bank was nice enough to stop the card on the spot.  However, in looking back over my statement they missed a few and after prodding by myself removed those as well.
