Title: Tents
Post by: Cartman on July 06, 2011, 12:17:12 PM
Looking for a tent to carry on the bike, probably against my better judgement, any reccomendations for you guys? Coleman Phad or Phat X3 seem to look good but a bit short in the sleeping area, looked at a Vango Oega online too but I really have no idea. Last time I camped tents still had ridge poles..... :D

Have a look at the Vango Banshee 200, £109.99 only 1.8kg or the Vango Spectre £99.99 3.2kg.

Just found this local to where I work. 2011 model of the Banshee only £78.99, discounted from £110. I'm going to pick one up tomorrow, it'll be far more practical than the 4 berth one I currenty have.

If this is what you are after I can get you one while I'm there if you want.

Thanks guys, you have opened a whole new world to my eyes1 Cheers for the offer LW, great price but my boy wants to come too, so will look at something a little bigger.

I think I'm going to go for a Vango Omega 350 or Coleman Phad X3, price checking begins tonight!

If you want a 4 berth tent you can have first dabs on my tent which I have never used. I'm going to buy a smaller one.

In have a Khyam which goes up in a couple of minutes.
This is then followed by 30 mins of swearing and backache as I try to get the guy ropes right and get the groundsheet, inner tent, etc. sorted out.

I used to have a true fast-erect tent.
It was inflatable. You rolled it out, put one peg in, then crawled inside.
Grope around to locate valve and screw in a small compressed air bottle (like the ones used for puncture kits).
About 10 secs later you had a tent. The base had a built in airbed (needed a manual or electric pump) and the partitions between the pressurised "poles" could be inflated a bit to give greater stability.
Once it stopped raining you could add a few more pegs so it wouldn't blow away.

The biggest -ve was that it was too small. I couldn't lie down straight. Had to curl up on my side.
I'm 6'4" so this is common in many tents that all seem to be designed for midgets.  >:(

F**k the tents..you spend one night getting wet , next one in Hotel Room with heating on full blast drying out all you stuff from night before.....& on & on it goes. Give up on Camping now. Used to love it when younger , just got to have proper Bed now.

I ended up buying the Vango Banshee 200 for £78.99 from a company called Springfield Camping at Luddendenfoot, Halifax. It only weighs 1.85kg and packs so small it even fits in a tiny corner of a pannier ;D
