Title: With a heavy heart I've gone lighter
Post by: StickyOne on August 02, 2017, 10:01:12 PM
Hi folks
I had to make a decision based on brain rather than heart and it meant me downsizing.
Due to a bit of age related jip I've had to go lighter and I've plumped for a Yamaha MT09 Tracer.
A completely different beast in all sorts of ways, but importantly in the weight department!
I've let Pete (PRD) know already out of courtesy as he was the previous owner.
A2 Motorcycles in Gravesend is now looking for the next lucky owner.
They wanted a standard bike so I had to remove a fair few bits so I will be listing the bits for sale shortly.
Comprising of:
Calsci touring screen
MRA smoked screen
R&G crash bars
Kawasaki low seat
R&G assist handle for helping on to main stand.
Phil's Farkels Givi rack
2" bar risers
2" set back bar risers

I'll report on the Tracer once I've been riding for a bit.

Good luck with the MT 09, I'm sure you will have many happy times with your new bike.

I understand completely how weight of a bike can be pivotal in your riding decisions.

Don't become a stranger on here

In the short time I've been on here, this "going lighter" has happened a couple of times.  I understand where the guys are coming from, as you get older a heavy bike can be a handfull.

I'm thinking that within the next year or so, I may have to think along the same lines.  I'm not happy about it but you have to be practical, will have to see how it goes.

I agree with you 100% sadly as we all aproach this problem I haven't yet considered it but I know this day will come I will miss the beast

Well I came from a Goldwing to the GTR and that was 'going lighter' and I noticed the difference then.
But since I have had an operation on the elbow and it has affected how my whole arm functions, hence 'going lighter' again.
I've had the Tracer since Tuesday when I just rode home. Yesterday was crap weather. Today has been a bit better and I have just returned from a 40 mile ride.
I fitted a VStream screen (having ordered it prior to taking delivery of the bike) because the stock screen is utter garbage (much like the one on the GTR where it seems to direct the airflow right onto the head).
Great choice. Well pleased with its effect.
Well pleased overall with the bike.
My son, who follows on his little Ninja 300, said I appeared to be riding with more fluidity. That is a good way to describe how I feel on it.
So far so good and I'm happy with my choice.
I'm just sad the the character and street presence of the GTR is no longer something that I can relish.

Did you choose the lovely deep Red colour  ?

I certainly would have had it been available but it isn't this year's colour.
The choice was a satin black, a bright blue or a khaki green.
I got a £600 discount on a black one although I don't like it much. I figured that a wrap in any colour of my choice would be the way to go and that discount easily covers the cost of a wrap.

I'm sure that you will still enjoy the bike, shame the Red isn't available for this model year...happy riding

I've gone the opposite way....heavier.  The only difference is that now I can actually flat foot the bike.  Going back to the GTR, it feels like it weighs nothing.
