Unfortunatley............. and much to my grievance, I appear to be the latest member of the FKIT Society!
This, I feel is a suitable acronym for those who have mislaid a transponder Key Fob during a journey.
Flaming Keyfob lost In Transit.
Or of course it can also apply when one realises the loss of such an item, and aids initial frustration when shouted at maximum volume on realisation of loss, or when your friendly Kawasaki dealer informs you of replacement part and labour costs! :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:
It was on my personage leaving home, but on ride to LLangollen driving through Trevor, that lovely red light came on and the accompanying message "Transponder missing".
All I know is it ain't in my possession any more.
How, where why or when have all been exhausted, it's gone - thank KHI a spare was provided.
Spain in 2 weeks, dare I travel with one only........I think not!
Before I pay the required funds to Cradeley Kawasaki, are there any other options open to me? :undecided:
What is the "credit card" spare on later models, is that an option for a 2008?
Can a good automotive lock smith create an alternative?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Feeling a total :asshole: ........time to 'fess up to SWMBO why the bike fund is gonna take a major hit!
Anyhow, celebrate the day with the clubs new society mantra......FKIT.....FKIT.....FKITy.....FKITy.....FKIT!
Night all! :embarrassed:

you are fortunate to have a spare, any new/replacement fob will need to be paired with your bike, your dealer will charge you for this service and that charge will be in addition to the cost of a fob which is available from KHI.
You'd better prepare yourself or a costly visit to yoyr dealer.
Don't ask me how I know
My bike only came with one fob, I've never had the luxury of two. I'd save my dosh and spend it on holiday, what could possibly go wrong.
Am I right in thinking the later model GTR's only came with one fob and the credit card back up?
Keys are so so much easier!! Pointless technology.

I was never in agreement to this thought...........until I have just lost one!
Key with fingerprint / personal recognition has to be the most secure?

Yes, early ones had two fobs, 2010 onwards have one and the 'credit card' back up..

Out of interest where do/did you keep the fob while riding.?
I believe the credit card fob is about £30 plus 1/2 hr labour to match it to the ecu.
Just the sort of thing I'd do, wife always carries back up, off to Spain myself soon and I wouldn't travel without a backup fob either.
You know it's a bad idea when every one is talking about it rather like tps.........

Thought the credit card fob aka the passive only one , was just a clone job (it's a RFCID chip) and didnt need matching to the ECU
When I was trying to buy SV11 I asked that Daytona supply me with a second fob.
They ordered in the cheaper "credit card" fob (once I told them about it!!) and threw away the wrapper with a unique number on it and so were unable to program it and had to order another one.
The smaller fob must be held right next to the on/off switch to activate and like its bigger expensive brother is matched to one of the three ecu's (I think it's the one under the seat).

Yup its matched but as long as you have an original fob (either the transponder or credit card one) both of which have the passive RFCID chip in then it is possible to clone directly from the fob.
In theory if you could find the right chip you could embed it it anything inclusding sewing it in to your glove.
Also unlike the Active transponder (which I think is limited to 6) you can have an unlimited number of passive chips
Thanks for all the info, but will a credit card style fob work on the ABS Gen1?
All dealers I spoke to so far (DK, DMC & Cradley) state that is a different fob on the Gen1 for ABS and non-ABS, suppose it's a different ECU, so would that be the same for the Gen2? Different ECU (Ktrac and all that).
Loathed to spend money on a solution that may be a non-starter! Credit card option seems so logical as a spare, especaily with cost difference!

I really wouldn't bother with a second transponder fob, unless you have money to spare.
Just make sure you dont lose the remaining transponder though ;)
The credit card/RFCID option will be just fine IMHO

All this hassle when a normal key would suffice.
I thought I had problems when I "lost" just the key out the fob while on holls in France....but to loose the fob.. :hammer: Jeeeze that's beats me hands down.
I'm so paranoid about the smegging thing...it's zipped up in my top left pocket of my bike jacket....never, never, to come out. :nono:...and by the way I found the "lost " key 3 days later  in an hidden pocket in my jeans..... :innocent: her indoors was not too impressed about it....and I live to tell the tale. :biker3:
Brian.
72 k miles over 10 years and I still have both OEM fobs.

I leave mine in the small and convenient tankbag I purchased from that nice gentleman and ace barnstormer Flatfour. Now I've got it I wouldn't be without it thus keep it with me at all times

Trouble is you get used to it (and I like it), then I ride something else and keep walking away from it, leaving the keys in the lock!
Just keep mine in a snappy plastic bag, in a pocket I don't use on my riding jacket.
Mine is always on a lanyard around my neck.
Can't leave without it and if I need a key to fill up or the panniers it's easy to get to.
Easy peasy
And here I thought FKIT meant something else entirely...
Bit the bullet!
Cradely called me yesterday, replacement fob in stock, got me booked in for ECU programme today @ 14:15.
So, finish work at 07:00, home and in the sack for 8 (hopefully) and a few hours before heading to Cradely to shift some serious spondies! :(
Just can't risk it as on the ferry Tuesday!
If anyone's about and fancies a brew will be sampling their coffee later on if you'd care to join me!
well done, now you have peace of mind
